I'm thinking of naming my DD this, and wondered if it was very popular at the moment? TIA

Dunno but love it.

MaggieMnaSneachta · 02/01/2010 13:16

no it'll never be very popular. it's not pretty enough. clem is an unattractive short form. Tyne isn't a very obvious nn either.

I think you're safe, this won't become popular, although, there might be a few out there. I'd be surprised if there were two in one school.

Heated · 02/01/2010 13:20

I love Clem as a nn and think Clementine is very pretty but have been debating with myself whether it's just a bit too frou-frou, really can't decide. There were two Clementines in the Telegraph announcements last month and it is becoming increasingly popular with those who like something slightly off the beaten track.

glasgal · 02/01/2010 13:31

maybe use it as a middle name or give a middle name your child can use as an alternative if they find it too burdensome, might get teased along the lines of "do you have sisters called apple and peaches?" not kind

Fayrazzled · 02/01/2010 13:39

I think it is becoming a bit more popular but it's not a name I'd choose because I associate it too closely with the song, which is exactly a happy one! I don't think it will ever be common-place but I suspect it won't be as unusual as parents who opt for it might think.

TotallyAndUtterlyPaninied · 02/01/2010 13:39

Hmm... it's an orange.

How about Claudia?

overmilkwood · 02/01/2010 13:40

Oh yes, love Claudia. Good idea.

Or the French version Clemence (Clem-ONSS) is less fruity but the same meaning and nn?

You could have 3 girls Clemence, Felicity and Verity - slight variation on the usual virtue names.

bellissima · 02/01/2010 20:07

Surely Clemence is the French version of Clemency?

dizzycringles · 02/01/2010 20:09

I loved it for DD3 and wanted to use nn Cleo but DH said absolutely not we used Cordelia instead

SardineJam · 02/01/2010 20:18

I think its its absolutely lovely, almost like the flower names. Its a name that came to me when I was pregnant but ended up with little ds instead

Belissima - yes but Clemency still too fruity sounding for some with the stress on the Clem.

LynetteScavo · 02/01/2010 21:51

I think it's lovely...didn't Mark form Take That sing a song about Clementine?

Definately not hugely popular.

natsmum100 · 02/01/2010 22:41

I knew a French Clementine pron.
Clem-on-teen. Less fruity?

wuglet · 02/01/2010 22:43

I love it. Think Clemmie is a beautiful abbreviation.
