My parents are Irish and I'm keen to give dd2 an Irish name - but would prefer one with easy spelling which rules out quite a lot! Any suggestions? Really need help as dd due in February and it was 6 weeks after dd1 was born when we agreed on a name for her! TIA

Thanks again for even more responses and so many lovely names. Have never posted on this thread before and didn't anticipate so many replies.

My DD3 is called Niamh and I adore that name. it really suits her fiery hair too! but beware because ppl will forever be spelling/pronouncing it wrong.

Anything spelt with ms and hs will always be mispronounced if you live in England. If you want something simple, go for Orla, or Kathleen or Coleen. You may just get away with Siobhan.

I really like Saoirse - although the Ross O'Carroll-Kelly books have put me off a little!

Never met an Irish Erin though met plenty of American Irish Colleens, Erins and Kayleighs!

I am giggling at the idea of Kayleigh as an Irish name. (Nothing wrong with the name but it is definitely not a traditional Irish name).
I like;
Cara
Catríona
Sinéad
Éabha (Ava)
Aoibhe (Eva)
Róise (Rosha, Irish for Rose)
Áine (Awn-ya)

We have a Maebh and an Eibhlín ...

Naoise is used mainly as a boy's name and is having a bit of a resurgence at the moment.

RedLentil · 21/01/2010 22:36

Most people here now seem to be using distinctly English names after a decade or so of more 'Irish' ones.

So Maebh's friends are called things like Maggie, Chloe, Christina, Jack, Thomas, Lisa ...

RedLentil · 21/01/2010 22:37

Muireann is a lovely name ...
