What do you think of Angela as a girl's name? It's listed on Mumsnet's Baby Name Finder.

not keen on this name either, my sister gets called Flange which just sounds wrong, agree with ChippingIn it's very 70's and surburban

SplitPea · 03/01/2010 08:34

Not for me I'm afraid. I don't like Angeline either. Sorry.

OrangeAnge · 03/01/2010 09:24

I'm an Angela (yes, 70's baby but hopefully not boring!) There aren't too many of us around - there weren't at school at I don't meet many these days either.

I do get called Ange and Angie - and Flange too I'm afraid!

Of course there's Angelina Jolie, and Angelina Ballerina...

Please not Angel though - def a strippers name (unless you're a bloke from Spain...)

I have always quite liked being called Angela and there's that great song by Jarvis Cocker so maybe it is due a revival...?!!

StanleyFletcher · 03/01/2010 11:55

I am a true 70s Angela and it is okay but I wouldn't have chosen to call my DD that name. I do think it is a bit old school and cool though... or I would if it were on a little girl and not on me, a child of the 70s! .

mozette · 03/01/2010 12:04

I was watching this thread to see if you would pop up stanleyfletcher

serenity · 03/01/2010 12:07

I don't like the English version Ange-ella (soft 'g') but I love the Greek one An-gel-a (hard 'g')

Angelica (as in Rugrats) is lovely.

jellybeans · 03/01/2010 12:15

very dated and may get 'Ange'

mummyloveslucy · 03/01/2010 12:40

I think it's lovely and could be shortened to Aggie, which is sweet for a little one. I also like Angelica, but think I prefere Angela.
If you like it, then go forit. There will always be people who disagree.

StanleyFletcher · 03/01/2010 14:23

...and I was trawling it Mozette to read a thread from you saying 'My gorgeous little sis is called Angela and she is a complete dollface and sweetheart so I love it" - smirk!

My gorgeous little sis is called Angela and she is a complete dollface and sweetheart so I love it

poinsettydawg · 03/01/2010 18:17

I quite like it

Jamieandhismagictorch · 03/01/2010 19:46

When you look at it objectively, Angela is quite pretty, with connotations of Angels, despite being a common name in the over 40's. ( I am 40)

I like Anita, but when I mention this to people they go .

I think that you may well be a trend-setter if you choose Angela

tethersend · 03/01/2010 19:54

Thank you, Jamie.

I am a trend-setter.

Jamieandhismagictorch · 03/01/2010 20:00

tether ! How in the hell are you ? Had not read whole thread

Jamieandhismagictorch · 03/01/2010 20:03

I think MN should invent a / emoticon

mathanxiety · 03/01/2010 21:32

Angelica with the hard G is nice, imo, but I wouldn't name a baby Angela.

tethersend · 03/01/2010 21:53

Am fine, Jamie... recovering from xmas; baby Angie enjoyed it immensely

Et toi?

angfirsttimer · 04/01/2010 18:09

Well I am a 70's baby and called Angela and I have never particularly liked the name. Everyone called me Ang or Angie when growing up but I now use Angela professionally.
I particularly dislike it with my middle name which I have always thought makes me sound like a gypsy fortune teller at the end of Blackpool pier!

MaggieMnaSneachta · 04/01/2010 19:02

Not at all keen. Prefer Annabel.

That neighbour of pranmas might have prefered Angela though.
