I like the name Sadie (know it's a nickname for Sarah) and am thinking of using as a first name, is it best to go for Sarah nn Sadie or is Sadie established enough to be used on it's own?? Hormones on overdirive so totally unable to make any decisions.

think Sadie in its own right is fine... were you thinking of a middle name...? Not sure how many would run that well with it though?

Sadie Clare
Sadie Elin
Sadie Sue

No, not at all - it's a lovely name in its own right.

ChilloHippi · 28/12/2009 11:44

Sadie is a lovely name.

nappyaddict · 28/12/2009 12:31

I would use Sarah, Sara or Mercedes

FunnyLittleFrog · 28/12/2009 12:34

It's a great name on its own.

BigusBumus · 28/12/2009 12:42

I love Sadie and once suggested it when pg to my Northern Irish MIL. She was horrified and said that there it meant a Slag or something. Cannot find reference to this on the internet though.

So long as you are not planning to move there, I would go for it in its own right, its very pretty,

My Grandmother was called Sadie.
It's a proper name, not just a NN.

MrsMattie · 28/12/2009 13:39

I like it. I think it stands up as a name in it's own right.

tinalane · 28/12/2009 14:10

Sadie is a great name. I know a Sadie, and she's a real princess diva!!!

I mean its a good name, feminine & feisty!

magbags · 28/12/2009 21:38

Love Sadie - I would go for it on it's own rather than a nickname.

CantSleepWontSleep · 28/12/2009 21:40

I didn't know that it was a nn for Sarah - are you sure?!

I think it's fine in its own right, and would go directly for that if it's what you want her to be called.

victoriascrumptious · 28/12/2009 21:41

I love it. I'm surprised at this thread though as everyone I have spoken to in RL (I was going to call my dd this) absolutely slated it

MaggieMnaSneachta · 28/12/2009 21:41

i love it! not wild about sarah tho. very bland.

LittleMontyontheDustyRoad · 28/12/2009 21:43

Love it. And it stands on its own.

RockBird · 28/12/2009 22:28

Yes, it's a nn for Sarah. I am a Sarah and am called Sadie by family.

mathanxiety · 28/12/2009 22:32

The (80 year old) NI Sadie I know is a Catholic -- is this what the MIL was getting at? NI is a funny place for labelling. I think Sadie stands alone at this point in time.

BridgetGump · 30/12/2009 12:35

I like it, never knew it was a nn for Sarah though (and Sarah is my name!)

maamalady · 30/12/2009 18:50

Sadie is my cat's name! When we got her it was already her name and I hated it, but DH insisted we couldn't change it. Still don't like it as a name I'm afraid, but my Sadie-cat is lovely

Scourgeofthesteelymoon · 30/12/2009 19:00

Love it! Sadie is my dds name and I always get a positive response when people ask her name.

We are having a Sadie Emma Louise in June, it seems to be getting popular.

MaggieMnaSneachta · 31/12/2009 16:51
