Just after some thoughts really...what does it conjure up for you?

Would you pronounce An-ya or Ah-nya? I think the latter is actually correct but i actually prefer the first.

Prefer Anna as a sound. (and name).

TulipsAndTinsel · 15/12/2009 09:56

my best friend when i was tiny was Anya.

love it

i'd pronounce it Ahn-ya

Tortington · 15/12/2009 09:57

buffy

HelewiseWoolf · 15/12/2009 10:03

I too prefer Anna and perhaps Anya as a nick name.
I prefer the ahn-ya pronunciation, but the young British Anyas I have met seem to use pronunciation Ann-ya and that sounds a little odd to me.

TisTheSeasonToBeHully · 15/12/2009 10:04

Nice songs, tho a bit wishy-washy.

ShinyAndNew · 15/12/2009 10:06

I love Anya, I wanted to call dd2 it after my Great Aunt as a marker of our Sloveinian hertitage, but DH refused stating that we are english and should have english names. I would have spelt it Anja though, short for Anjanka. And pronounced An-ya.

Ondine · 15/12/2009 10:10

I'd pronounce it An-ya.

Not keen on it really. It has a harsh, nasally sound that I don't like.

skihorse · 15/12/2009 10:50

I like it - but then I live in The Netherlands.

Walnut8 · 15/12/2009 11:05

I like Ahn-ya. An-ya sounds nasal like Ondine said. I knew an Anya and the name seemed really nice on her.

MrsMattie · 15/12/2009 11:41

I like Aine - 'Awn-ya' -the Irish version best. But i think 'An-ya' is nice, too. Ah-nya sounds a bit poncy.

Kaloki · 15/12/2009 12:08

Very pretty name

pinkteddy · 15/12/2009 12:14

Anya - reminds me of Anya from Buffy. She was a feisty one and very funny. It was short for Anyanka (sp?). I like it.

birdofthenorth · 15/12/2009 12:43

I love the name Anya. I prefer it the Eastern European way - Ann-ya

Lovely!

turkeydrumstix · 15/12/2009 12:43

Very pretty. I would pronounce it Ann-ya.

upahill · 15/12/2009 12:49

I love it and I would say it the first way.

MummyTumble · 15/12/2009 14:22

Lots of positive replies - thank you!

I would like it spelt 'Anja' as we have dutch heritage, but I think it would be a minefield of mis-spellings and pronunciations (sp?). From what I have researched this is how it would be spelt - unless anyone else here knows...skilhorse perhaps??

(DH happens to love buffy so sees that connection as a great reason to use the name where as i just like the name itself...)

turkeydrumstix · 15/12/2009 15:40

I think Tis might mean Enya!

midnightexpress · 15/12/2009 15:47

I know a little Anya and they pronounce it An-ya. It's v pretty. Though I always want to spell it Anja.

MaggieAnFiaRua · 15/12/2009 15:52

I like it. I like Anna and Annabel more though.

I prefer Anya to Anja though. I didn't know about the singer either.. if there's an anya on buffy that would put me off.

MaggieAnFiaRua · 15/12/2009 15:54

is Anelka a name, or somebody's sur name?? i thnk i like it, but it might not even be a name.

MummyTumble · 15/12/2009 16:53

I do know an Anelka. Her dad is a raving Man City fan. Sadly footballers move on .....
