Could this one work as a girls name? I think it is quite beautiful and can think of nice nicknames.
I may save for a middle name if dh is not keen.

No i would not... Phany is not a nickname i think any child would be thankful for and one certainly to be thought of as a teen... Any other ideas??

LilyBolero · 05/12/2009 15:36

Yuck yuck yuck

rubyslippers · 05/12/2009 15:38

nope

MisSalToeKisses · 05/12/2009 15:46

No, I wouldn't ever use.

Flightattendant · 05/12/2009 15:47

It's a nice word but not a great name imo. Reminds me of epi-pen.

silverpeartree · 05/12/2009 15:48

That's one nickname I didn't mean. Stephanie could have the same problem, but doesn't seem to.
I like Pip, Pippy, Eppy..

Well I can see what you mean as it is pretty sounding, and I like Pip etc.

The trouble is it has a very commonly used meaning, so rather than people seeing it as a name, as many of the trad names, and not knowing its meaning, people might associate it with the meaning.

ie realisation, dawning of knowledge etc...not a bad meaning as such but it's a bit like calling someone 'celebration' or 'happening' I suppose. Bit too literal.

Flightattendant · 05/12/2009 15:52

Actually scrap that. I really do like it.

GrendelsMum · 05/12/2009 16:34

I rather like it, actually. But it probably would be 'Eppie' for short (like the girl in Silas Marner), which I've never liked much. In fact, it would be just like the bit in Silas Marner where he says he's calling his adopted daughter 'Hepzibah' after his sister and his neighbour pulls a cat's bum face and says 'I hope you called her something else for short'.

LilyBolero · 05/12/2009 16:39

If you like Pip, what about;
Philippa
Pippa
or you could just about get away with
Penelope
Piper (as in Piper Laurie?)

Mistletoesnowman · 05/12/2009 16:49

No sorry. I know a Pippa though and think it's a really cute name.

oopsandbabyJesusinacoconut · 05/12/2009 18:28

I know an Epiphany with NN Pip. Sweet little girl and suits her name.

lotspot · 05/12/2009 19:21

Eppy isn't a good nickname - it is slang for epileptic fit!! also reminds me of Epi-Pen

Having been to a religious school i also instantly think of the epiphany in the catholic sense - doesn't work as a name for me - sorry

berber · 05/12/2009 20:17

Has no one seen Angel Heart??! Lovely name, but not a nice way to go...

JaneiteMightBite · 05/12/2009 20:20

No, sorry. It is terrible.

MissGreatBritain · 05/12/2009 20:26

I know someone who has this as one of her middle names, but she was born on the Epiphany. I think it would be a bit daft to name your child that if she wasn't born on that day (is it the 6th Jan??) A bit like being called June when you born in October.

CoteDAzur · 05/12/2009 20:28

I like it.

boodleboot · 05/12/2009 22:18

feedthegoat · 05/12/2009 22:21

Berber - I was just going to post the same thing!

seeker · 05/12/2009 22:23

DOn't be silly!

Merle · 05/12/2009 22:25

I adore it and I don't usually go for obviously unusual names. Use it, please. For me it has great associations of travel, gifts, astronomy - wonderful.

Would suit a Bond girl! Arguably this is a good thing; she'd be brainy and glamorous.

Ronaldinhio · 05/12/2009 22:26

no this is terrible unless you would shorten it to fanny which is a good nickanme

pip is the name of a jackrussell
