Boys name - opinions?

Ok, husband is French, I am British, our two daughters have names from both cultures.

We're expecting a boy this time & are having the usual arguments about names.

Options are:

Thibault - pronounced Tibo - We both love it but is this too far out for GB? I suspect the kid'll spend his life spelling it out.

Loic - as per above

Ludovic - any thoughts?

Antoine - possibly the safest option but also a bit boring.

I have posted before here about Anatole but even I think that's a wild card!

Go on, be very very honest...

Thibault - pronounced Tibo - I really like it...if you're liveing in Fance, then fine, but I'm not sure the English could cope.

Loic - I'm not sure.

Ludovic - Fabulous! You really should call your baby Ludovic!

Antoine - - Very nice....not too popular in England, so there won't be loads of other Antoines in the school, but it's not really unusual either.

Ludovic is a brilliant name, and I like the abbreviation Ludo, too.

Anatole always makes me think of Aunt Dahlia's chef from Jeeves & Wooster! Not that there's anything wrong with that, necessarily. I think to british ears, the 'Ana' bit might make it sound a bit too girly.

frogthistle · 01/12/2009 19:05

Forgotten about the Jeeves & Wooster connection - I shall need to order DVDs to explain that one to DH!

Thibault isn't so far removed from Theo which seems popular atm, so I think Brits would manage.

I like Ludovic too.

WobblyPig · 01/12/2009 19:12

I like Thibault - people get over unusual names very quickly. I would go with it.

tummytickler · 01/12/2009 19:29

I like Thibault too, and Ludovic (little Ludo is very cute!).
I too think of Aunt Dahlia's chef when i see Anatole!

dixiecringles · 01/12/2009 19:30

Thibault for me too call him whatever you want without concerning yourself with other people spelling it - as long as you know its going to be spelt wrong in cards etc and don't mind! he'll grow to love it

I like Ludovic known as Ludo too

littleomar · 01/12/2009 19:34

They are all great but I particularly like Loic.

shoobidoo · 01/12/2009 19:45

I particularly like Ludovic and Loic. Thibault may get confused with the very popular Theo, so I'd avoid that.

I know a French English couple whose sons are called Sebastien and Quentin - I like both of those too.

Jamieandhismagictorch · 01/12/2009 19:56

I really like Loic. Never heard of it before, but it has a nice strong sound (I assume it's pronounces Low-ic ?)

frogthistle · 01/12/2009 20:10

Yup, Low-ic exactly so WYSIWYG. Spelling wise there is an umlaut over the i but that would really be pedantic to insist on that from others.

Loic is an ancient form of Louis, bit like 'Ethelred' equivalent for UK.

Hear what you're saying shoobidoo but Sebastian is really overused in France & I went to Uni in France with an absolute twat called Quentin - I couldn't do it! Too many memories!

This is really useful, DH & I have been going round in circles.

Love, love, love Thibault!!!! Am tempted to steal for my own DS due on 24th

CornishKK · 02/12/2009 15:19

Love Thibault and Ludo. I'm sure the general British public could cope with it

capstock · 02/12/2009 15:20

I really love all of these names. If you love Thibault choose that.
