John.

mumtofour · 29/11/2009 00:47

whichever name appeals to you is the right one.....whatever anyone else feels is individual to them....good luck.xxxx

randomimposter · 29/11/2009 07:30

Wouldn't choose any of these myself BUT
Edmund/Edmond - worked with a right plonker/also think of Blackadder
Barnaby - this is ok if works with surname
Gerald - dislike
Timothy - ok
John - dull
Giles - worked with an oddball...
Henry - want to like it as like Harry... but just don't
Bruce - not keen AT ALL
Monty - the golfer ....

HTH

JingleAllTheWay · 29/11/2009 07:42

Love Monty best, also Barnaby

Whatever you choose, he will be gorgeous I'm sure!
Let us know

jellybeans · 29/11/2009 08:59

Timothy
Henry

only ones I like, Tim best.

BettyButterknife · 29/11/2009 09:03

Edmund/Edmond - ok, but inevitably shortened to Ed, which people always assume to be Edward. Might not bother you though
Barnaby - I think I like it. I wouldn't pick it myself but I don't think it's awful.
Gerald - ooh, no sorry - I do think this is dreadful. Baby Gerald?
Timothy - bit wimpish - reminds me of that sitcom with Ronnie Corbett who lives with his mum
John - really dull. Although I do actually like Johnnie/Johnny.
Giles - not really to my taste
Henry - nice
Bruce - really??
Monty - love it! Would it be Monty as a stand alone name or Montgomery?

AnnieBeansMum · 29/11/2009 09:05

I'm not a fan of any of them tbh, but I would say Giles and Timothy are my preferences.

That being said, it is your child so whatever name you choose will be perfect!

MamaLazarou · 29/11/2009 09:11

I like them all apart from:

Giles - sounds like a plural
Barnaby - the bear
Timothy - namby-pamby

Bruce is on my shortlist, too. Fabulous name.

hulabula · 29/11/2009 12:25

Really like them all, but would avoid Edmund as will inevitably be shortened to Ed (and there are so many around).

But as others have said, it's your child so YOU (not us) have to love your choice! Good luck!

audley · 29/11/2009 15:56

Edmund/Edmond - love
Barnaby - love, I have one
Gerald - imagine a middle aged civil servant
Timothy - want to like but does feel wet
John - great meaning, but boring, mn perhaps?
Giles - mn potential?
Henry - ok
Bruce - no
Monty - no

Tortington · 29/11/2009 15:58

Edmund/Edmond - eddy?
Barnaby - or burn-a-baby?
Gerald - gerry?
Timothy - tim dullsville
John - what?
Giles - only if you keep horses or else your kid will just be known by a twatty name

Henry - fine
Bruce - no
Monty - overdone recently

Jamieandhismagictorch · 29/11/2009 20:17

I would scrap :

Barnaby
Gerald
Timothy
Giles
Bruce
and
Monty

Sorry - these are all a bit "weak", posh or middle-aged sounding to my ears. Sorry

JaneiteMightBite · 29/11/2009 20:19

Edmund/Edmond - love Edmund but not with an'o'
Barnaby - love, love, love it (dp hates it)
Gerald - erm...no
Timothy - it's ok
John - bit boring
Giles - for an old man I love it but not for a boy
Henry - no
Bruce - hideous
Monty - yes, v nice.

dizzydixies · 29/11/2009 21:00

all ok apart from Bruce and Giles but my favs would be

Edmund and Monty which I love

zigzags · 29/11/2009 21:03

Edmund/Edmond
John
Giles
Henry

These are the names I like best from your list.

MrsJohnDeere · 29/11/2009 21:17

I like Edmund and Henry.

John, Monty are OK.

Not keen on the others.

doubleexpresso · 29/11/2009 22:53

Quite like Bruce - it's a bit unusual still and 'manly'. Also like Gerald - nn Gerry.
Have you considered Bruno ? I really like that.
Barnaby, Timothy and Giles - all sound like 'Mummy's boys' sorry.

LaDiDaDi · 29/11/2009 22:55

Barnaby, Henry and Monty are nice.

Heated · 29/11/2009 23:01

John

ja9 · 29/11/2009 23:03

erm... none really

barnaby at a push... or timothy

lilibet · 29/11/2009 23:10

Without looking at other replies Edmund/Edmond - like it apart from King Lear images! (and dh says Blackadder!)
Barnaby - sorry, but no
Gerald - another no
Timothy - Tim, Tim, nice but dim
John - a classic and there wouldn't be many of the same age, but perhaps a tiny bit boring
Giles - love this. (dh hates it!)
Henry - love this as well!
Bruce - oh dear me no!
Monty - sorry no again (dh says have you seen Withnail and I?)
