No. Call him Me instead

LastTrainToNowhere · 25/11/2009 00:26

Oh no no no.

Unless Ewan MacGregor disappears off the scene completely in the next few years (unlikely).

What if Mr. MacGregor does something really daft in the future a la George Michael or Hugh Grant's indiscretions? You really don't want your sons' friends, emm, using such incident to tease/bully, do you? Extreme example, I agree, but really why associate them with someone so smug-looking forever and ever?

Well, as it took me a couple of moments to 'get it', I don't see why not. Probably only if you are in Scotland though!

Vivia · 25/11/2009 11:38

These are definitely fairly common here in Scotland. It's only connected to Ewan McGregor when said aloud, right? So just refer to them as Gregor and Euan if you are bothered by it. Lovely names, the actor won't always be famous, not everyone will think of him. Do it!

MaggieBelle · 25/11/2009 12:48

ummmm. Even though I love the name Gregor I'm going to have to say NO. Shame though.

Especially as Euan is the older one. If it were Gregor and Euan, that would sound ok, wouldn't ring any bells.

But Euan and Gregor.... sounds like you're BIG fans!!

But then, I'm not in Scotland. Maybe it is not so 'associative' in Scotland.

MrsBadger · 25/11/2009 12:51

no

Gregory posssibly, but tbh I wouldn't use Gregor anyway, whatever ds1 was called

MaggieBelle · 25/11/2009 12:56

What about Donald op? another excellent Scottish name that is underused.. I think Bruce is cool. Less adventurous, Fergus is nice. But fergus is still rare -ish outside scotland. Maybe it sounds totally blah to you.

diddl · 25/11/2009 12:59

I wouldn´t-but that´s only so that I could have Hamish or Angus!

MummyTumble · 25/11/2009 13:02

No

MilkTrayGirl · 25/11/2009 13:54

Why not name this one Mac and then try for a third and call it Gregor A bit harsh if it's a girl maybe but hey in themselves they are lovely names! As several other people have said you can always refer to them as Gregor and Euan (or Gregor, Mac and Euan!!)

SkinnyLattePlease · 25/11/2009 21:30

We live in Australia, so maybe the connection isn't as obvious. We aren't big fans of Ewan McGregor we just like the names. I did wonder about swapping the names around when out in the park etc.
We also like Hamish, Angus and Harris for names but DH has decided that they are too popular for his liking.
Back to the drawing board!
Thanks for your thoughts.

Too popular? Well, I live in Scotland and I know one Hamish (who is half German!) one Angus and no Harrises. I don't think any of them are exactly overused. How about Duncan? I love that name.

Ellica · 26/11/2009 09:40

i'm in aus too, my nephew is ewan, and his brother Austin, i think gregor is a great name and diff too!
and ewan mcgregor isn't big here at all so i'm sure not many people will even make the connection!

MaggieBelle · 27/11/2009 08:06

I have a duncan in the family (not my son) and he's the one one I know.
