I have a dd called Eloise. One more on the way. Like Elizabeth-is it too similar to Eloise?

no, it's a lovely name to go alongside it.
Eloise and Elizabeth has a nice sound - as long as you don't mind them having the same initial for when post arrives etc....

mummynumnum · 15/11/2009 20:40

My dd wants to call it Louisa after her friend-now that would be confusing!

Glad you liked it.

Beautiful name, and goes well with your DD's name.

displayuntilbestbefore · 15/11/2009 20:49

yes, Lousia is not such a good choice!
Sorry there's only me who's given a comment so far (at least it's a positive one, though!) this will bump for you

HollyGoHeavily · 15/11/2009 20:53

Beautiful and classic - and with plenty of potential nn's (Lizzie, Beth, Betty, Liza). Go for it

choosyfloosy · 15/11/2009 20:55

My first thought was that it is a bit similar TBH - both lovely names though. I would definitely go for a different second initial!

Do you use nicknames? If they are going to be Ellie and Ellie, that's a bit much, but Ellie and Beth sounds fine.

ellokitty · 15/11/2009 20:59

We have a DD1 (Eloise) and also really liked Elizabeth. For the same reasons as you, we eventually decided not to go with Elizabeth - we thought it too similar and in the end went with Katherine (Kitty) instead.

Elizabeth is a gorgeous name, we just felt it too similar.

GrumpyYoungFogey · 15/11/2009 21:08

Elizabeth must be rejected by any self respecting MN-er, for the following reasons:

a) Biblical
b) New Testament
c) Perennially popular down the ages
d) Not indicative of social class, or race.

An "Elizabeth" (or "Liz") could be one of your 30-something friends, your mum, an African or Carribean, an Anglicised Asian, or even an 80yr old head of state!

It doesn't signal "noughties born member of the Boden classes". Try something sensible like Flora.

Cies · 15/11/2009 21:16

lol GrumpyYoungFogey

Elizabeth is a beautiful name, and goes well with Elouise I think.

GhoulsAreLoud · 15/11/2009 21:18

Elizabeth is lovely, my Gran's name and my DD's middle name.

Eloise also lovely, in fact top of my list for another DD. DH won't consider it though cos he went to school with a horrible one, so am of you.

jemart · 15/11/2009 21:32

Excellent name - sounds pretty, easy to live with, everyone knows how to spell it, lots of nickname variations, difficult to make fun of.

mummynumnum · 15/11/2009 21:33

If I do decide on Elizabeth it will be a lizzie.

Saying that it could be a boy.

mathanxiety · 16/11/2009 00:37

I think they sound too similar, but love them both.

BaconWheatCrunchies · 16/11/2009 00:47

I don't think they're too similar. We were going to have it for a girl, I like Libby as the shortened version.

jasper · 16/11/2009 00:56

go for it. Beautiful name with more permutations then any other
lizzie
Liz
Betty
Betsy
Bess
Beth
Lisbeth
Ellie

must be others

MaggiePie · 16/11/2009 12:08

I like it. Eliza and Eloise might be too much though. Can you guarantee she wouldn't be called Eliza?

I love Beth and Elsa. But Elsa is more Es, Ls and Ss.

I think I'm going against the grain when I say that Elizabeth and Eloise is a bit matchy matchey. Not terrible. Have heard worse panda combos, but it's going that way.

What about

Bethany
Juliet
Annabel
Beatrice
Florence
Phoebe
Penelope
Lydia
Olivia

They would all go very well with Eloise.

mummynumnum · 16/11/2009 19:19

Thinking about Annie now.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 16/11/2009 19:22

Elizabeth is a fine choice, but I will say that because its what we have chosen for our DD who is due on the 11th December!

Pingpong · 16/11/2009 19:27

I really like Elizabeth - a classic name with so many nn to chose from BUT I do think it is a bit too similar to go with a sibling Eloise - sorry.

TheMysticMasseuse · 16/11/2009 19:37

Elizabeth is beautiful

TheRedQueen · 16/11/2009 19:57

Gorgeous name and I think it's fine for a sister to Eloise. PLEASE don't do "Lizzie" though. I used to get called this as a kid (even though my name is nothing like Elizabeth!) and I hated it! My grandmother who was called Elizabeth used to get "Lisl" (pronounced "Leezl" like the oldest child in The Sound of Music). She, incidentally, had the middle name Emma, which I think sits really well with Elizabeth. Actually, now I think about it, I think I need another DD specially so I can call her Elizabeth Emma .....

TheFallenMadonna · 16/11/2009 20:00

Elizabeth is a lovely, lovely name. It is very similar to Eloise though...

madlizzi · 05/12/2009 22:34

i am an elizabeth, but have always been called lizzi or beth.when i was much younger i always thought my proper name was a bit fuddyduddy, but i think that being called lizzi is more bubblier, and is also easier for the children in the nursery where i work to pronounce!!

cupofteaplease · 06/12/2009 09:52

I am an Elizabeth, and I like my name. Unfortunately it automatically gets shortened to Liz which makes my teeth itch! As a child and teen, I would introduce myself as Elizabeth and people would say, 'Is Liz ok?' and I'd never have the confidence to say no, my name is Elizabeth! As an adult, I now do correct people though.

My family all shorten my name to Bet or Betty though which I've always liked.

Eloise and Elizabeth is a nice combination imo.

LadyOfTheFlowers · 06/12/2009 09:55

I like it alongside Eloise.

My middle name is Elizabeth and when DD is born, it will be her middle name too.
