Quite a pretty name, I think.

Can it ever be anything other than the cook though??

It is a pretty name, but does have the inevitable 'Smith' connection. I also like Cordelia, which you can shorten, or not, if the 'Smith' thing gets too much

dizzydixies · 14/11/2009 17:05

our DD3 is Cordelia and am hoping it won't be shortened to Delia as I can't get past the cook

Delia is pretty - I have a really lovely (37yr old) friend called Delia.

MaggiePie · 14/11/2009 17:38

I love it. I don't think of Delia Smith so much, or, if so, so what.

To be really blunt, it'll take about 3 weeks for your baby Delia to make the name her own... and Delia won't be around when a baby has grown up.

Maybe Cordelia wiht Delia for short takes the 'come on lessbee 'avin ya' out if it??

go for it, it's lovely.

MaggiePie · 14/11/2009 17:39

Delia Smith is just a cook, a very successful one. I don't get it. She's not a serial killer or anything.

stressheaderic · 14/11/2009 18:21

I had a friend at school called Dilia (same pronunciation though). Always liked it...

mathanxiety · 14/11/2009 20:06

Lovely. And Delia Smith isn't a famous porn star or anything of that nature. I also like Celia.

BettyButterknife · 15/11/2009 10:26

I suppose it's just there really is only one famous Delia, whereas if you called your child something where there were a few examples, you wouldn't get 'like the cook?' questions all the time.

But maybe I'm overanalysing! LIke you say, MaggiePie, it'll be the baby's name so fast anyway.

Glad to hear it's an overall positive response

I think the Americans feel the same about Martha funnily enough. THere are far fewer Marthas in the US.

It's a lovely name.

Cordelia gives you the option to have Celia or Delia as a nn. Love both.

theagedparent · 15/11/2009 13:31

Love Delia also Celia or even Velia.

BettyButterknife · 15/11/2009 18:18

Ha! I love Martha too (both the name and the Stewart).

But I can't have it because it rhymes with DS's name That breaks my heart.

How about Della?
