Yes so ok I have seen the name Zephie on Chuggington and I think it is a really sweet name but is it a real name or short for something? Not getting much on google so wondered if you name experts had any info?

I have just read "Trouble with Lichen" by John Wyndham written in 1960 and one of the main charachters was Zephanie a name I had never heard before. Googled it and seems to have greek origins and there are a few around.
Zephie could be used as a shortname for Zephanie although to me it does sound a bit "made up"

thanks bruffin, interesting the only other possibility I found was Zephyr and not too keen on that.... they do both sound a bit "made up"

I would think it was short for Zephan or Zephara.

TerryDactyl · 10/11/2009 22:15

I've only ever heard of one Zephie - short for Zephaniah

nooka · 11/11/2009 04:58

I'd assume (hope!) it was short for something. Zephaniah is a boys name, whereas Zephie sounds quite feminine.

I do like Hepzibah / Hepzie though also Zeborah / Zebbie. Both for girls, and in the same ball park I think (well they have Z's in them anyway )

mamaloco · 11/11/2009 08:12

It is supposed to be the feminine form of Zephyr, both shorten to Zeph. But it does sound made up. Greek origine meaning "god of the west wind" (Zephyros?).

How about Sefi for Serafina or Sephe for Persephone?

GrendelsMum · 11/11/2009 12:01

Or go 19th century and have Kezia?

jellybeans · 11/11/2009 12:20

I have heard of Zephyr and Zephaniah. I quite like just Zeph on it's own.

I had an aunt called Zephie, she was Canadian and married my uncle when he was over there during the war. I am trying to find out more about her and her name but without much luck!

PatriciaHolm · 19/06/2013 18:48

Tsipora (zippora) can be shortened to zippy/zephy?

DehydratingManiac · 19/06/2013 18:51

If ds had been a dd, he would have been Josephine. My preferred shortening for that is Sephie which is similar?

bruffin · 19/06/2013 18:53

Baby must be nearly 3 by now Grin

Aww, bugger. Don't usually get caught out by zombie threads.

zephiejellyman, good luck with your search. I did our family tree a while ago and found a surviving relative still in Canada and she helped out enormously with the branch of the family there (moved there during the war). She knew where to look when I was totally lost.
