Please help but try not to be too harsh with me!!

I really like Erin (or maybe Erinne)and have done forever - DH is unsure but says he'll go with me if I'm 100%....

Our DD1 is Lauren (I didn't push the Erin choice last time!)...do you think having 2 girls called Lauren & Erin is a bit of a mouthful?

The alternative is Alexandra but I think that is a bit of a mouthful in itself and I think we'd be at "Alex" within hours, which is nice too but I'd like her to have the choice when she's older as to whether she shortens it or not...

So we're looking at either "Erin Alexandra" or "Alexandra Erin" or possibly even another 5 weeks starting from scratch again....(don't even start me on boys choices!)

I don't think it matters much how well it 'goes' with your other daughter's name. I really like Erin Alexandra!

I think it sounds OK, almost clashes but not anywhere enough not to use. You could say 'Erin and Lauren' it flows a bit easier. I prefer Erin Alexandra as there are so many Lexies about.

claraquack · 09/11/2009 16:06

that's funny as lauren is dd1's middle name and erin dd2's middle name! I love them both. Alexandra Erin is nice.

boodleboot · 10/11/2009 22:19

Erin Alexandra is lovely. Erin {NOT Erinne} and Lauren sound lovely together.

annamama · 10/11/2009 22:30

Erin is a lovely name. Don't think it's too similar to Lauren, so go for it!

Vivia · 11/11/2009 15:20

Erin Alexandra is great - and avoid Erinne because no one will ever spell it. Erin is classic, keep it that way! And you say Lauren, I think of Lauren Bacall. It's all good.

birdofthenorth · 11/11/2009 15:25

Erin Aleandra is gorgeous. Sounds fine with Lauren.

Don't go for Erinne, I know an Eirin (same pronunciation) and when we ordered her a personalised baby gift the company utomatically 'corrected' my order to Erin!

AnnaSui · 12/11/2009 15:50

I really wouldn't.

Erinne looks totally chavtastable.

AnnaSui · 12/11/2009 15:52

I came across a woman with an Errin, two Rs. Trying to be polite, I said 'is that the scotish spelling?' instead of 'what kind of a farking jumble of letters is that?' and she looked at me as though I were totally insane.

If you spell things in lunatic ways, you have to suck up a few stupid questions.

Louziebuuz · 13/11/2009 13:20

Very fair points made - thank you all! I guess I was seeing Erinne as an alternative but still well-known spelling. Since she'll be spelling her surname for all eternity I definitely don't want to saddle her with an odd spelling of her first name too! I was just concerned that Erin looked a bit "harsh and spikey" when you see it written, and the extra "ne" made it look a bit softer. Now I can't really see where I got that from anyway! So really glad you've helped make up my mind on that point!! Makes my toes curl to think I could give my daughter a name people think looks Chavtastic!! Definitely not what we are after!!

Anyway, I am quite thrilled to see Erin Alexandra written so many times above in potential reference to my 36 week bump. Could be we have a decision! ... on girls names at least!

ther is a girl called LOIS ERIN in my dds class always think that sounds nice

nooka · 22/11/2009 01:23

I think they are too similar personally, if you say them together it is a bit of a tongue twister. Nice names though. So personally I'd choose Alexandra Erin over Erin Alexandra. I also really like names where there is choice of diminutives. Your dd will choose what she wants to be called when she is older regardless of what nn you choose when she is little, so I really wouldn't worry abut that. My next door neighbour growing up was an Alexis, always known as Leckie but once she hit her teens she was always Alexis. I also had a childhood shortening which is only used by my family now.

jasper · 22/11/2009 02:14

It's not like Laura and Flora.Or jim and Tim. Or Wayne and Dwayne

WHo cares?

jasper · 22/11/2009 02:15

Pretentious for no good reason
