Need a middle name for Catherine

We've chosen to call DD, due in December, Catherine. No particular reason other than we love the name, but we cannot find a middle name to go with it that grabs us in the same way.

We had the same issue with DS, but then he was born on St Patrick's Day and as DH's name is Patrick and FIL has Irish parents and was pushing us to include an Irish name, it seemed perfect.

I'd like DD to have an Irish based middle name too but the only one I can find which I think is pretty is Aiofe (Pronounced Ee-fa) but DH isn't keen. We've also toyed with Catherine Emily and Catherine Elizabeth but obviously they're not Irish.

It wouldn't be the end of the world if we chose a non-irish middle name, the most important thing is that we find something pretty that we love...

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Catherine Elizabeth is beautiful.

Also like Niamh and Roisin as middle names.

My sisters middle names are Catherine and Claire. Bit worried that if we used both DH's sisters would feel left out though.

I love the name Isobel, wanted that for a first name but DH didn't like it. Wonder if I can talk him into it as a middle name?

busybutterfly · 08/11/2009 21:13

Hmmm, just be careful of her initials if CI are the first two.

My initials pre marriage were CCC.

After marrying DH they're now CCJ.

GoldenSnitch · 08/11/2009 21:27

Our surname begins with an L.

Its the same as the name of QPR's football ground.

is CIL bad? Good job I didn't choose the K spelling that's for sure!

I can't control her married name obviously.

doubleexpresso · 08/11/2009 21:35

Catherine Alexis ?
Catheeine Clodagh ?
Catherine Meriel ?

Katz · 08/11/2009 21:38

i'd have to go with catherine elisabeth, but then spelt differently its my name!

kalo12 · 09/11/2009 14:35

Eloise

Roisin.

Catherine Roisin.

personally i think it would be nice to go wiht Irish from what you've said, more imporatnt for a middle name to have menaing then be 'pretty' imo (obvioulsy want both though) First names more imporatnat to be pretty than have meaning.

MIddle names don't get used really so just a good chance to give a nod to someone/something/heritage I reckon.

Seededbiatch · 09/11/2009 14:44

My sister's name is Catherine Lucy.

We don't actually call her Catherine though, we call her Lucy but I think they go well together anyhow!

GoldenSnitch · 09/11/2009 14:48

Catherine means 'Pure'

Roisin is 'little rose' apparently which is lovely. My niece is named Rose.

Aoife is 'Beautiful, radiant, joyful'

and Elizabeth - 'My God is a vow' Hmmm not so good for me as an Athiest

Emily is 'Rival'! That's put me off it a a bit too!!

OK, so Aoife is winning again. But DH, FIL and my Mum all hate it

GoldenSnitch · 09/11/2009 14:49

Niamh is 'Radiance, brightness' I like that too...

Yorky · 09/11/2009 15:02

Catherine Lorraine - French not Irish but pretty and unusual?

Kingsroadie · 10/11/2009 18:30

Saoirse - meaning freedom - similar to Sorcha I suppose but pronounced slightly differently...I really like it (but that's not the point !)

GoldenSnitch · 10/11/2009 21:31

How do you pronounce Saoirse Kingsroadie?

thirtysomething · 10/11/2009 21:38

Catherine Niamh works well
Also goes well with lots of non-irish names:
Natasha
Esther
Miriam
Rebecca
Rose/Rosa
Lily
Grace
Beatrice
Harriet
Isabelle
Franc es
Susannah
Eve/Evelyn

lovemybabyboy · 10/11/2009 23:46

Saoirse - pronounced sere-sha (sere like here but with an s) lovely name
also love Aoife!
How about Aoibheann - pronounced A-veen
Catherine Aoibheann sounds nice IMO and similar to Catherine Aoife

Catherine Anne was the first name that popped into my head when i saw the thread.

JoeyBettany · 11/11/2009 08:17

Catherine Louise is my name

GoldenSnitch · 11/11/2009 15:43

Louise is lovely but it's my SIL's middle name so, as Catherine is my sisters middle name, I'd then feel obliged to add my other sister and other SIL's middle names too and that's too much!

HappyBump · 11/11/2009 15:46

My neice is Kathryn Rose. I think it's pretty but not Irish ...

GoldenSnitch · 11/11/2009 15:58

My niece is Rose It's a lovely name. Changing it to Roisin would make it Irish but that seems like too many "in" sounds.

My other niece is called Grace.

I'm so picky - sorry everyone
