Lola? Help with potential family feud!

Difficult one. At the beginning of the pregnancy we had a shortlist of Matilda and Lola, I liked both but DP prefered Lola. To avoid calling bump she/it/baby we began to call her Lola, this then spread to use by DP's parents. We now have embroidered towels with Lola on and still 10 weeks to go...and I'm having doubts.
Not sure if I'm just bored of having a decision or whether I really would prefer a more traditional name through fear Lola may become dated?

MY new shortlist is Rowan, Matilda and Eliza.
DP is currently refusing to reconsider as he now sees her as Lola. I understand this and guess I may just be being hormonal?

Opinions greatly appreciated!

I liked the name Lola, although I also had reservations about the showgirl aspect!

Plus the fact that our cat's name is Charlie...

Another option would be to put Dolores on her birth certificate - I think that's the full name from which the nn Lola comes - if you don't find it too awful!

Matilda was also on our list, and we're using Rowan as her middle name. We chose the first name Lucia in the end, if that's any use!

Not keen on Eliza.

I'm just wondering why embroidered thing have already been made. Unles you have had an amnio and definitely know the sex then girls on cans have come out as boys! Much rarer for a boy to come out as a girl though.

Along as you and OH are happy you are perfectly entitledto change the name whenever you want and stuff the other family members. My best friend had a name for 8 months and when I turned up to greet X at the hospital she was now called Y.

I had a similar issue when I was pregnant with dd2, she was called Lily from the 20 week scan and everyone including other children called my bump Lily. When I gave birth I decided she didn't look like a Lily and I wanted to call her Elizabeth! I think it was just hormones though as I did stick with Lily after gentle persuading from DH and am pleased I did

I quite like the name Lola (la la la la Lola ), and can't particularly see it dating - it has been around a long time.
But I will say, I had a shortlist of a couple of names for my DD, and was pretty sure I'd go with one. But when I actually saw her for the first time she definately looked more like the other name.

I think Lola's a great name, but if you choose another why not keep Lola as a middle name?

btw Rowan, Matilda and Eliza are lovely too, you choose good names!

name for life -towel isn't. towels can be replaced if name changes. don't pick name because of fripperies like embossed towel or she will be called dualit to match the toaster.

My first thought was Lolita when I first heard my friend's were using the name. I feel slightly odd about it. It seems quite a sexualised name. It seems to be quite popular at the moment though so I am clearly alone.
Personally I would just wait until after the birth. Just see how you feel when you see her. It's a time when you really get to say, "X just doesn't feel right" and it's verrrry difficult to argue with that.
And don't care about what other people think. Names can't be chosen based on a thread on a website. The world needs variety and we're all different.

You can't choose a name due to a set of towels...but your real problem is really that your OH obviously really likes the name and is set on it. Not surprising since you've been calling baby this for months.

You'll need to convince him how much you want to change it, rather than worrying about the in-laws. In years to come it'll just be a family story of 'remember when...' and baby will grow into whatever name you finally decide.

I picked both my DC names and loved them both for years and it still took months for me to get used to them on real person! Their 'bump' nicknames stuck for ages (and are still used)

I prefer Lola to your other choices .
That said, I don't really like Lola either I love it in Spanish, but feels wrong misplaced -- to me in English.

That said, any name you choose people will get used to and find completely acceptable in short order; Lola is quite mainstream and conventional in my mind, in fact. Much more so than your other choices.

I agree about the Lolita link to Lola. And that song L-O-L-A. It's a name that seems to lend itself to kinky associations. Would this sway your DH against it? Love Eliza, also Greta, Rowan and Matilda. How about Linnea?

I too think of Barry Manilow but my first thought for Eliza was Dolittle, and Matilda makes me think of waltzing. So wait until the baby is born and go for the one you like best.
