Very popular here if that bothers you

Clary · 05/11/2009 11:50

I like Maisie.

I do think the objections to barristers etc having these cute names will be irrelevant - a whole generation of Maisy/Daisy/Lily/Poppy/Tilly/Olivia/Amelia/Betty/Honey/Ellie/fill in own option is going to grow up and while some may become performacne artistes, some of then will become accountants!

It is quite popular here too FWIW. I can think of 3 or 4 off the top of my head.

MillyMollyMoo · 05/11/2009 18:17

I know a Molly and Maisie, not my cup of tea I always think of Maisie Mouse.

twolittlekings · 05/11/2009 18:22

please don;t take this the wrong way but I immediately think of Masie Mouse.

LOVE Matilda BTW

Pingpong · 05/11/2009 22:15

pranma my lab was called Maisie by the rescue centre but I thought it was too woosy for a lab (never mind a daughter!) so renamed her!
I think Maisie is a good cat, hamster or cow name but not strong enough for a woman - too cutesy little girly for my liking.

muminthemiddle · 08/11/2009 00:20

It always reminds me of the mouse.

nappyaddict · 08/11/2009 01:41

roopoo and scorps did you pick 2 M names on purpose or is it coincidence the names you picked start with the same letter?

seeker · 08/11/2009 08:14

I presume Maisie is originally short for something - does anyone know what?

eclectech · 08/11/2009 08:34

I think it was short for Margaret. I think Maisie is a lovely name.

purepurple · 08/11/2009 08:49

DD has a friend called Maisie, she is 13 and we still cal her Maisie mouse.
I think it is a bit too cute, suits a baby but I struggle to see it suiting an adult.

nappyaddict · 08/11/2009 10:27

It's short for Margaret and Marjorie.

nappyaddict · 08/11/2009 10:28

How about Taisie? I know a little girl called Anastasia that gets called this.

lotspot · 08/11/2009 11:30

I don't like it - seems very wet and a bit lifeless - no spirit to it!!

Saying that, I know an 8 yo Maisie and the child is awful - she looks all sweet and innocent but she's so naughty!! She's really rude to adults and children, snatches, steals, hits etc etc and cries whenever she doesn't get her own way!(just fuel to my 'its a bit wet and drippy' fire really)
I don't think I'll ever be able to like the name Maisie because of this, but then I didn't like it much before either

sorry!!

Thissideofchannel · 08/11/2009 13:10

Very 'cutesy' and 'mousey' in my opinion, so would be a cute nickname for a little girl, but I really can't see an adult named Maisie.

OrangeAnge · 09/11/2009 12:56

We are thinking of Maisie as a middle name if our bump turns out to be a girl.

The grandmothers are called Margaret and Daisy so it seems like a good way to make reference to both in one name!

It is quite girly, but I agree it's mainly that there is a generation of little girls with that name at the moment.

My mum is 65 and has no problems with being called Daisy. No one thinks it's a silly name for a woman so I think Maisie is the same.

messylittlemonkey · 10/11/2009 15:54

We have a 4 yo Maisie. We did think about how it would sound when she's grown up, but as someone else on here pointed out, there'll be a whole generation of women with these sorts of names and besides, two of the other Maisies I know are both old ladies!

We're hoping to find out what our next DC is tomorrow (boy or girl I mean!) at 20 week scan so are now thinking of names to go with Maisie.

MamaLazarou · 10/11/2009 18:56

I dislike it immensely. Too cutesy and drippy and twee.

Ivykaty44 · 10/11/2009 18:57

Noooo

messylittlemonkey · 10/11/2009 20:27

well, if we all liked the same names where would we be?!

I love having a Maisie as to me it's a bit different without being OTT.
