Kaelyn?

Struggling with names for soon to be DD (due in 3 weeks - eek!).

We wanted to go a bit off-piste, as we can't stand 95% of the top 100 girls' names, and had got as down to Keira or Kyra.

DS found Kaelyn on a baby name site, and we both absolutely love it, but it does seem very American (although apparently it's an old English name meaning waterfall).

Thoughts of the Mumsnet collective?

honestly? sounds made up and makes me think of this

Jujubean77 · 27/10/2009 13:08

nice sound but prefer spelling

Kaylin

SweetTalkinZombie · 27/10/2009 13:09

I think it's lovely! Unusual without being weird. However, it'll be one of those names you will always be asked to spell out. I reminds me of my mum's name, which is Kathlyn .

Vivia · 27/10/2009 13:46

It's awful, sorry.

branflake81 · 27/10/2009 13:50

don't like it, sorry.

diddl · 27/10/2009 13:56

Sounds like a cross between Kayleigh & Caroline.

Or American as in Kaye-Lynne

For similar sounding, I prefer Caitlin or Kathleen.

BunnyLebowski · 27/10/2009 13:58

Trailer trash name. So no.

nicnacinoonoo · 27/10/2009 14:00

i think its lovely so is keira. agree that kaylin is a nicer spelling of it though.
a friend of dh's has two dd's 1 called keira and 1 called keisha

Littledawley · 27/10/2009 14:11

Makes me think 'and morphine' - sorry. Keira is lovely.

overmydeadbody · 27/10/2009 14:15

Oh God Kaelyn is awful awful awful, unless you are a teenage mum living in a rough housing estate and the biggest ambitions you have for your DD are working in Argos and getting you discounts on the jewelery

Jujubean77 · 27/10/2009 14:16
Hmm
NorbertDentressangle · 27/10/2009 14:17

Sorry but Kaolin and Morphine was first thought here too

reikizen · 27/10/2009 14:19

As in kaolin and morphine - old diarrhoea medicine?

EightiesChick · 27/10/2009 14:32

Don't like it I'm afraid. It's unfortunate in that although it's old, it does sound new and made up.

mathanxiety · 27/10/2009 15:16

Very American-ish. I prefer the Irish name Caoilfhionn (or Keelan as it's pronounced, pretty much) Keira and Kyla are nice too.

jkklpu · 27/10/2009 15:18

Don't like it, sorry. Keira is very popular because of Ms Knightly. You could always go for Irish (Ciara) or Scots Gelic spelling (Ciera) to be more original.

Jamieandhismagictorch · 27/10/2009 17:10

I don't like Kaelyn

I do like Kyra, which is wierd because a lot of K names sound made-up and American

Ciara is pretty, as jkkipu says

Jamieandhismagictorch · 27/10/2009 17:10

Weird

diddl · 27/10/2009 17:30

I also like Kyra and Ciara.
And Cara!

Naetha · 27/10/2009 19:50

Thanks for the heads up - I hadn't even thought of Kaolin!

Exceedingly yucky. Sounds very made up and naff. Sorry.

ib · 27/10/2009 19:53

I like it.

Squishabelle · 27/10/2009 20:02

Sorry - made up and definitely reminds me of diarrhoea mixture. PLEASE dont saddle a child with this.

mamalovesmojitos · 27/10/2009 20:03

not nice. sorry.
