What do we think. DH and I are quite keen - also like Verity and Clemenine but worried they are becoming too popular.

Like it a lot.

littleomar · 20/09/2009 19:05

= those weird dolls with massive eyes (google it)

littleomar · 20/09/2009 19:05

and gwyneth paltrow's mum

waitingforbedtime · 20/09/2009 19:07

Went to school with a Blythe, is quite nice. Prefer verity by far though

geordieminx · 20/09/2009 19:08

Its a coastal town in the north east of england

KIMItheThreadSlayer · 20/09/2009 19:14

I love it

abra1d · 20/09/2009 19:14

Blythe is pretty.

piscesmoon · 20/09/2009 19:26

Verity and Clementine are pretty-Blythe is a surname and not in the least pretty.

5inthebed · 20/09/2009 19:28

I prefer Verity, as Blyth is a run down seaside town near me, full of charvers and women who eat their young

piscesmoon · 20/09/2009 19:31

It is a bit like calling them Skegness!

UniS · 20/09/2009 19:33

its a boys name normally tho, isn't it? Scottish IIRC.

sassmonkey · 20/09/2009 21:20

I love it. Husband won't hear of it, but I think it's lovely for a girl. Means joyous.

skyward · 20/09/2009 21:24

Thanks ladies. I think we love it (don't know my own mind any more with all this decision making). I like it because it seems like a name that would suit an adult well - bit wary of overly pretty names that suit little girls but not grown ups. Can't imagine being called Clementine at 45, though I know Clementine Churchill was.

Gilbert Blythe - swoon

AitchTwoToTangOh · 21/09/2009 01:34

i loved it, dh hated it. do like verity hugely. also honor.

oxocube · 21/09/2009 06:33

Geordieminx, I felt the same when I read it! Its a bit like calling your baby Whitley Bay (but only to those from NE of England

Seriously, I think it sounds very American - one of those names like 'Taylor' which could be for a boy or girl. Verity is very lovely though.

Minshu · 21/09/2009 06:51

LOL at 5inthebed's comments.

That's what puts me off - but if you are sure never to live in the NE of England (or near the equally attractive Blythe Bridge near Stoke on Trent), then the name isn't a bad one.

Prefer Verity. Clementine is pretty, but wouldn't that be a magnet for teasing?

skyward · 21/09/2009 07:15

We live in Somerset so not very near the NE!

Middle name Spirit of course.

It could be one of those Pilgrim/Puritan names I suppose - Hope, Verity, Chastity, Blythe (except Blythe probably a bit too cheerful), but in the main I think people will think of gorgeous Gilbert or indeed places. Howsabout 'Blythe Cullercoats.'..

pranma · 21/09/2009 18:05

actress in 'Taggart'is Blythe Duff
I prefer Verity

pranma · 21/09/2009 18:06

or how about Clemency ?The author Susan Hill has a Clamency and imho it is nicer than Clementine which is a bit 'orange'as well as the song.
