Heather?

Floral names seem to be back in fashion, but why not Heather? DH pulled his nose up, but I'd like a longer name which won't get shortened, and isn't already used to death..

Lovely name, I don't know why it's not popular.

Sunbeammama · 18/09/2009 13:48

Fab. Sounds like a name for a pretty & confident girl I think.

bellissima · 18/09/2009 14:59

Nice name although possibly connotations of Ms Mills.

echofalls · 18/09/2009 15:00

gorgeous name

TheDMshouldbeRivened · 18/09/2009 15:00

dd hates it. its her name.

Lancelottie · 18/09/2009 15:13

We did have one incident when a (large) dad came to ask me to stop my toddler son insulting his (large) daughter by calling her Heavy...

otherwise, it's lovely.

VanillaIce · 18/09/2009 15:13

Mills McCartney

Or the fat girl in Eastenders.

Sorry - you did ask!

MaggieBeauLeo · 18/09/2009 15:40

I like it. I think it's perceived differently in America. Maybe it's like Claire. It was over used at one point. It's unusual here.

geordieminx · 18/09/2009 15:45

Riven its my name too, and when I was the same age as your dd I hated it too. Now I love it as I am the only Heather I know IYKWIM. Its nice to go to work and be "Heather" - not Clare S or Joanna P or Helen T?

I also get H quite a lot from family/friends which is nice.

Also had heifer jokes at school, but hey there arent many names these days that you cant make a joke out of.

Zil131 · 18/09/2009 15:54

Thanks for the responses. I forgot all about the gold diigger Mills-McCartney...
Shoudn't be the risk of her being 'Heavy' or 'Heifer' - as both DH and I are tall and skinny.
And I think most of us go through a phase of hating our names at some point.
I'll keep it on the list for now, and DH and I may make a delivery room decision!

Heather is definitely an airhead/ cheerleader-type name in the US (like Tiffany, Brittany, and yes, Dawn).

crokky · 18/09/2009 18:34

I love the name, know a 25 yr old one.

Anyway, the other "heather" association she gets is "lady heather" from CSI. (She was a high class ummm domanatrix character who kept appearing in CSI vegas - nice character though, grissom adored her...I digress...embarassing myself

MaggieBeauLeo · 18/09/2009 20:30

Anybody remember the film Heathers?

Deemented · 19/09/2009 21:06

I'm a Heather, and i bloody hate it.

hambler · 19/09/2009 21:16

love it

lola0109 · 20/09/2009 20:05

I really like it but DPs aunt is a heather and she has banned us from using it as she had a few comments growing up!

Apparently Erica is a form of heather (gaelic maybe) so thats a strong contender instead!
