I know this is another spelling for Rory which I know is a boys name but I came across it in my baby names book last night for a girl and I'm thinking it's actually really nice.

What do you think? x

It's the Gaelic spelling, it's not wrong! Although it's a more anglicized version of the true Gaelic. Fwiw, I went to school with a girl called Rory, different...

I know its not wrong but most people will think its a 'creative' spelling of Rory, the boys name

Love it for a boy but absolutely hate it for a girl. I should say it is our top name if we have a boy although we would spell it Rory. I really hate it when people start using boys names for girls. We have a Finley and I hear that this name is becoming more popular for girls.

I would not use it for a girl unless you think she won't mind spending her whole life having people mistake her for a member of the opposite sex.

Sorry it just makes me think of the Archers. It will always be mispronounced or misspelt.

Its a boys name and spelt incorrectly for the gaelic way too. It should be Ruariadh.

LadyPink - that is the Scottish form, but it is Ruari in Ireland.

Name her Rhian, Rhianna, Roxanne, Roxanna, Romilly, Rosemary, or indeed anything, and call her Rory at home

I know someone who has a BOY spelled like that and he has all but given up and started spelling it Rory as everyone else does.

Ruairi (Irish) or Ruairidh (Scottish GAelic), just to get that straight. And Gaidhlig doesn't have an h at the beginning unless lenited for some grammatical reason, like having bun-sgoil in front of it which is a feminine noun. Pedant's corner, anyone?
