Italian, Spanish or French girls names...

I realise that's quite a wide brief...

Dh's family is Italian, my dad's family is Italian, my mum's family is Argentine with some French. I have a French first name, dh has an Italian first name, ds has an Italian first name (Luca) so I'm a bit stumped for girls names.... never thought I'd be having a girl, so I never gave it a thought!

How about Gigliola? Prettier and more unusual than Giovanna but similar sounding. Hard to pronounce for Brits though. (Mind you, I can't bear Giovanna pronounced as if it had 4 syllables - gee-oh-van-nah - so that would be just as bad as assorted mutilations of Gigliola for me.)

Or, in the 'C's...

Please not Gigliola - it's lovely, but I cringe every time I hear an English person saying Tagg-li-a telly! Imagine what it would be like to hear your child called Gigg-li-ola a hundred times a day!

minervaitalica · 16/09/2009 09:51

Gigliola.... argh... Sounds very "prissy"... Pls don't...

LOL. My kids called the Gigliola we know 'Jelly-La-La' for a while!

Zebra33 · 11/10/2009 19:41

So what is the correct pronounciation of GIGLIOLA, I'm curious.

Another one for the list - Giordanna

spaghettina · 11/10/2009 20:36

Zebra- Gigliola should be pronounced "Jil-yola" (3 syllables) with the accent on the O...
