What do you think?

DH and I are thinking it is actually quite nice. Goes quite nicely with our surname.

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
maggiemoon · 08/09/2009 19:11

wasn't that the dog's name in garfield?

BroodyChook · 08/09/2009 19:12

Is it for a boy or a girl?

weegiemum · 08/09/2009 19:12

No.

QueenOfFuckingEverything · 08/09/2009 19:13

I like it

I know one Odin - about 4yo now.

LaurieFairyCake · 08/09/2009 19:15

perhaps if Scandinavian

if not, no. Sounds like a God of something.

suwoo · 08/09/2009 19:16

There was one on the birthdays on cbeebies today IIRC

MrsWuh · 08/09/2009 19:33

The dog in Garfield was called Odie, not Odin.

A few years ago I'd have given you an unequivocal "NO!", but now I have a son called Theo, and I secretly think it's quite cool that his name means 'God'!

Actually, I quite like Thor...!

pippylongstockings · 08/09/2009 19:36

What about Orson ?
I know an Odin and an Orson both from fairly hippyish families in a fairly hippyish town - ie wouldn't be out of place if a child was called Merlin there too.........

But I like it!

Phew, I am glad its not the name of Garlfield's dog!

pippy not Tintagel in Cornwall is it I told DH i liked Merlin for a laugh! He told me he wanted a divorce . He likes Thor, but its too harsh sounding for my liking. I like Theo, but I know a grown up called Theo (loser) and a friend's little boy is called Theo.

Odin was our dog's name - he was a lovely big boxer dog but not sure I'd like it for my ds. I think he was the Norse God of War - if what my Dad told me when I was young was correct. Also know an Orson - the furthest from a hippy as you can imagine, right wing, Bush loving Irish republican - lovely though.

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 08/09/2009 20:08

The thing with names, I am finding, is there is always a name that some-one knows who is a dog, or a cat, or similar, it seems that often (although not always, for those with dogs called buster etc) that people get pets and name them names they want/wanted to call their children! Certainly in my circle of friends, a few who have said, 'wish I did not call the dog that name, I like it for a boy!'

Yes I saw the one on the cbeebies birthdays too. I'm not keen, but it's ok.

MaggieVirgo · 08/09/2009 20:12

I knew one and he was called the sin of Odin. I'm afraid it's just too similar. Sorry.

Peabody · 08/09/2009 20:14

I wouldn't personally.

dizzydixies · 08/09/2009 20:59

oh Pav please don't as I know one and he's a little sod [meep]

other than that carry on and hope you're keeping well

boodleboot · 08/09/2009 21:40

i love it. very strong sounding name. my cat is called Thor and am regretting not saving it for a son....its a great name....

BroodyChook · 08/09/2009 21:43

In that case, I rather like it

apostropheisback · 08/09/2009 21:43

I like Thor. DH would go ballistic and call the kid Simon or something.

seeker · 08/09/2009 21:49
Ondine · 08/09/2009 21:52

I don't like well known God names for children, too much to live up to.

apostropheisback · 08/09/2009 22:18

How about the less well known ... Tisiphone ?

seeker · 08/09/2009 22:38

Don't forget Frig....

OurLadyOfPerpetualSupper · 08/09/2009 22:43

I'm afraid I also find it too close to Onan (as in the sin of Onanism.)
Sorry.
