What do you think?
I was thinking along the lines of Natalie, Natalia, and it sort of evolved from there.
Greek muse of comedy. Nice?

Lovely, unless you live in Kent, when she will become Failya - not very confidence inspiring!

There's a character in a book called Thalia, shortened to Tim - which is nice.

Besom · 06/09/2009 06:58

I love it. Would be on the short list if I have another one.

vess · 06/09/2009 07:06

Hmmmm, not sure I like Failya quite as much...
And just discovered it is also a car - Renault Thalia. How annoying!
Still liking the name, though.

My ds thought his best friend's name was spelled Efan for ages!

belgo · 06/09/2009 07:11

Thalia is nice.

MamaLazarou · 06/09/2009 08:58

Is it pronounced with a hard 'T', or do you pronounce the 'H' as well?

purepurple · 06/09/2009 09:05

I used to know a Thalia, her name was pronounced with the hard 't' (Talia)

castille · 06/09/2009 09:05

I prefer it with a hard T.

There's a girl in DD2's class here in France called Thaïs (ty-eess, more or less) which is similar.

GrendelsMum · 06/09/2009 10:35

In the book, it's pronounced 'th' as in 'three', but people keep mishearing it as 'failure'.

I think you'd have to pronounce it Talia in order to avoid that.

littlemissm · 07/09/2009 12:50

My dd5 is Tahlia as the other spellings make the name sound different i pronounce mine Tah-lia. Thalia i would pronounce with the TH & Talia would be Ta-lia its funny cos when i dine a thread on this name every1 slated it lol

littlemissm · 07/09/2009 12:52

Also i took the Tahlia from Natalia as i love this name but didnt want my child being called Nat. Tahlia is hebrew for morning dew the difo spellings all have diffo meanings

MrsBadger · 07/09/2009 12:56

I know several Talias (TAL-ee-a) and a couple of Tahlias (TAH-lee-a)

both pretty

Thalia less so IMO

laneyjay · 07/09/2009 13:10

We called my daughter Talia. Decided no H as when she learns to write her name it will be easier and also no-one will call her thalia with a 'th'. We call her Tally for short.

ismellofbabysick · 07/09/2009 13:14

My DD1 age 8 is a Tahlia, she loves it as she's the only one in her school.
Her friend had a baby sister last year and she's a Thalia

Loujalou · 07/09/2009 14:34

I like Natalia but not Thalia. Talia nice as well.

vess · 07/09/2009 18:20

Well according to lots of baby names sites Thalia is of greek origin, means 'to blossom' and is the muse of comedy; whereas Talia is of Hebrew origin and means Dew of Heaven.

Talia is simpler to write and pronounce, but I like the meaning of Thalia more. And it will go better with dd's name, which is Sophia. Suppose she could be Tally or something for short. If dh doesn't reject it, that is.

dizzydixies · 07/09/2009 18:33

HerHonesty · 07/09/2009 19:33
