Theodore - Want some opinions...

Hi all,

Have posted before asking for a name for DS2 (due in 2 months, panic panic, the pain of labour is starting to come back to haunt me ). Just a bit of background - we are a mixed race couple so DCs will have a Chinese middle name, therefore first name has to be relatively 'simple' as middle name will be two syllabus. Also, last name is two syllabus, ends with '-ley'. Wanted Atticus for DS1 but he ended up as Aidan. Have to admit, it suits DS1 very well. Have been very keen on Dashiell for DS2 but DH not keen at all.

So been really stuck for ideas. Last couple of days, had a flash of inspiration and now really loving Theodore. Always liked Theo but think that's too informal, will be great for nn. Also, I have to say I love the nn 'Teddy' for when DS2 is little.

Aidan and Theodore look and sound nice together too. I haven't given up on Dashiell completely, I think Dash as a nn is so cool. Almost everyone at work prefers Theodore over Dashiell? Opinions anyone?

If you slam both names, at least give me some other ideas. Did like Elliot and Ethan but too popular for my liking now (would like something out of Top 50 at least!). Also really like literary names (i.e. Beckett, Auden, Tennyson, Darcy, Elliot falls under the same category...) but haven't found one that works for us yet, or rather, I am brave enough to consider yet. Thanks!

Ax

lol, sorry!! I've had 3 girls so never had a chance to use any of the boys names I love

now, if you needed a girl name I could be on here forever

Out of curiosity, what are your girls' names?

There's a theodore in DS's school who is always known as Theodore I think. He also has a little brother called Hector. Their names suit them very well

One of my mums group had an Atticus. So if I'd have had a boy, there would have been an Atticus and a Dashiell!

Go for it.

I have a Theo(dore) and a Rufus .

My Theo was christened Theodore, but has always been known as Theo - he's 5, his name was fairly unusual when we had him - now I would say it's becoming more common (damn that footie player!) which I'm a bit sad about.

We're going to struggle with number 4 - it was SUCH a struggle getting to DS2 (Rufus!).

Love it!

HATE Dashiell. Awful awful awful.
Prefer Theo to Theodore. Theo is lovely.

Love Theodore and Rufus, what an adorable pair! Good luck with number 4 SM, I am so glad we are stopping at 2!

Thanks creditcrunched. akamummy - It might grow on you! It was definitely a name that grew on me...

My 5-year-old is called Theodore. He is known to most people as Theo, but "THEODORE!" is a fantastically scary option for yelling at him when he's being naughty!

I also often call him Ted or Teddy as a pet name when we're snuggling up together. (Teddy bears were named after Theodore Roosevelt - there's no way that 'Teddy' is only a nickname for Edward!)

I love everything about this name. My husband and I first thought of it on the day of the first scan, as a bit of a joke. But it grew and grew on us, until we couldn't imagine calling him anything else. I have never, ever regretted it. Whereas it took months to get used to calling his little brother 'Isaac', and even now he's a year old, I still call him 'Thingy' every now and then!

Keep on at your husband - Theodore is a beautiful name with a lovely meaning, and seems to result in beautiful, lovely children!!!

DH just came back with his list:

Benjamin
Oliver (we almost chose this for DS1)
William
Isaac (close cousin's son's name)
Daniel

Argghhhhhhhhhhh! Lovely names but so popular now. I don't want a popular name... DH is Richard and as you can imagine, lots of Richard in his age group so he sees nothing wrong with having a common name. How on earth are we ever going to agree?
