We have chosen a name for a girl and are thinking of Otto or Tibo for a boy....

Tibo looks made-up and now you say it is (the spelling). If you like Thibault, choose that - it's a name. Or, as you don't seem to have any need to have a cultural connection with the names you're considering, go for Tibor, which is Hungarian.

It is the sound and the simplicity of the name i like. as i'm not french the german spelling makes more sense to me.

Otto is awful imo - in German/Nordic languages, Otto is a really awful, old fashioned name that is often joked about! Would be cruel to name a child this name in any German speaking country!!

Thibault is very nice, on the other hand!

Spelling of Thibaut/Thibault here.

puddinghead · 28/08/2009 22:49

Otto is a great name - believe it's making a come back actually in German/Nordic countries hulabula, in same way as, say, Arthur and George are here.

I've come across a few Audreys and Cyrils in France - now there's a case for smirking

Sorry, I don't like either.

MissGreatBritain · 28/08/2009 23:50

otto vaguely ok, but tibo is awful.

Otto is nicer, imo. I knew a Zachary of German Jewish descent whose middle name was Otto (an old family name for the family).
