Mitch for a boy?

Hi everyone,

This is my first time using the forum, I registered about 3 weeks ago when I first found out I was pregnant (with my first child) and have been reading the forums with interest since.

I just wondered what the general reaction to the name Mitch is? My maiden name began "Mitch..." so to me its a nice way to acknowledge my side of the family, and I do think the name is cute. Have had mixed reactions though from family, what do you all think?

I'm a fan.
Mitch gets my vote.

AvadaKedavra · 23/08/2009 13:58

Prefer Mitchell then Mitch as nn. More scope when older.

moondog · 23/08/2009 14:05

Don't like it . It's a bit chavvy.
You're brave starting out on this part! Noone will ever like the names you like. You know that, don't you?

mumtojust3whippetsuntilnow · 23/08/2009 14:15

Chavvy? Oh nooooo!!

lol, it's ok, I know it's each to their own, I'm not committed to the name, just intrigued as to the responses it would elicit...thanks to those who have responded thus far

I would prefer a full name of Mitchell or Michael (with Mitch as NN). Would your full maiden name be suitable as forename? That could be way cool.

mumtojust3whippetsuntilnow · 23/08/2009 14:27

That would be good, but no, my full maiden name isn't Mitchell (don't really like that name anyway as conjures up images of the Mitchell bros for me and I hate Eastenders!) and wouldn't work as a forename unfortunately.

its nice and cant be shortened

moomaa · 23/08/2009 16:02

I like it but it makes me think of baywatch

FuckOffDailyMail · 23/08/2009 19:36

Agree with Moondog that it's chavvy.

screamingabdab · 23/08/2009 20:18

I'm sorry. I don't like it, even though it's a nice idea to use your maiden name

MiniMilk0610 · 23/08/2009 20:22

I knew a little boy called Mitchell who was called Mitch, have to say when I first heard it I didnt like it, but as with most children, the name kind of grows on you so you think of the child rather than the name iyswim. Do think its better to have a longer name that can shorten to Mitch if you decide to go with that tho.

MaybeAfterBreakfast · 23/08/2009 20:38

Don't like it at all. I know a lovely toddler with this name, but still can't warm to it.

florence2511 · 23/08/2009 20:41

Yeah reminds me of Baywatch too, but I don't like it.

MovingOutOfBlighty · 23/08/2009 20:43

Sorry - its chavvy and reminds me of David Hasselhoff and his hairy chest.

LynetteScavo · 23/08/2009 20:45

I prefere something longer...Mitch sounds like it's short for something.

mumtoted · 23/08/2009 20:57

Yep, another vote for reminding me of Baywatch.

Tambajam · 23/08/2009 20:59

It's sounds too cheesily 'trying to be American' to me. Like Randy.

Platesmasher · 24/08/2009 19:23

I know a few scottish Mitch's so it sounds scottish to me, not american.

MrsMattie · 24/08/2009 19:24

I know a Mitchell. Also know a woman called Michelle who gets called Mitch. It's cute, but it's not a proper name, is it?

ErikaMaye · 24/08/2009 20:43

Prefer Mitchell. Plus its my MW's name!

BitOfFun · 24/08/2009 20:47

I worked with a Mitch, who was absolutely lovely. nicest guy you couold ever meet. So thumbs up. He didn't use his first name though, just contracted his surname. I never asked why.

MamaLazarou · 24/08/2009 21:08

I don't like it at all.
