Mitch for a boy?

Hi everyone,

This is my first time using the forum, I registered about 3 weeks ago when I first found out I was pregnant (with my first child) and have been reading the forums with interest since.

I just wondered what the general reaction to the name Mitch is? My maiden name began "Mitch..." so to me its a nice way to acknowledge my side of the family, and I do think the name is cute. Have had mixed reactions though from family, what do you all think?

I'm a fan.

Prefer Mitchell then Mitch as nn. More scope when older.

I would prefer a full name of Mitchell or Michael (with Mitch as NN). Would your full maiden name be suitable as forename? That could be way cool.

That would be good, but no, my full maiden name isn't Mitchell (don't really like that name anyway as conjures up images of the Mitchell bros for me and I hate Eastenders!) and wouldn't work as a forename unfortunately.

I knew a little boy called Mitchell who was called Mitch, have to say when I first heard it I didnt like it, but as with most children, the name kind of grows on you so you think of the child rather than the name iyswim. Do think its better to have a longer name that can shorten to Mitch if you decide to go with that tho.

Don't like it at all. I know a lovely toddler with this name, but still can't warm to it.

Yeah reminds me of Baywatch too, but I don't like it.

Sorry - its chavvy and reminds me of David Hasselhoff and his hairy chest.

I prefere something longer...Mitch sounds like it's short for something.

I know a few scottish Mitch's so it sounds scottish to me, not american.

I know a Mitchell. Also know a woman called Michelle who gets called Mitch. It's cute, but it's not a proper name, is it?

I worked with a Mitch, who was absolutely lovely. nicest guy you couold ever meet. So thumbs up. He didn't use his first name though, just contracted his surname. I never asked why.
