wheresclaire · 21/08/2009 20:30

Will probably be called Fergie. I quite like it though. Any Scottish links?

Tillyscoutsmum · 21/08/2009 20:35

We quite like Ferg and Fergie and really like Gus as nicknames.. We're not actually Scottish but our surname is so Scottish names tend to work well (surname is the same as leader of Conservative party)

I like it. DD has a toy dog named after that book , but its still not what came first to my mind - it was, who's that good reporter I sometimes hear on R4, Fergus somebody.

danthe4th · 21/08/2009 20:35

cute as is fergal I think is the irish version

yama · 21/08/2009 20:38

Would go very well with your surname .

TiggerIsEisCat · 21/08/2009 20:38

not what would choose but if you like it...

xx ei xx

nigglewiggle · 21/08/2009 20:40

I like it, but I REALLY like fergal.

wheresclaire · 21/08/2009 20:43

Oh I really like Gus as shortened version. When I hear Fergal I think of that long haired singer from 90's. Fergal Sharkey?

weegiemum · 21/08/2009 20:45

Nice.

the combination is good

(and I don't often say that on baby names threads!)

IOnlyReadtheDailyMailinCafes · 21/08/2009 20:46

Lovely name.

MaggieBeauLeo · 21/08/2009 20:50

Love it! I was gutted when my cousin had one before my son was born. That could have been 'the one' on my boy list.

nigglewiggle · 21/08/2009 20:55

What's wrong with "The Sharkey?"

Platesmasher · 21/08/2009 20:56

it's nice. quite harsh sounding iyswim.

MIAonline · 21/08/2009 21:02

Love it.

Like the full name and the nn, especially with the surname.

Tillyscoutsmum · 21/08/2009 21:17

Ooooh - quite positive so far

Meh- apologies for the typos- been on the port for hours!

Tillyscoutsmum · 21/08/2009 21:27

at port... Little Fergus better be out before Christmas so I can have my port and stilton

shootfromthehip · 21/08/2009 21:50

Good luck Tilly-

Thunderduck · 21/08/2009 22:25

I don't like it.

mathanxiety · 22/08/2009 03:57

Fergus and Fergal are not related. Fergal is the Irish version of Virgil, whereas Fergus is a modern Irish version of Fearghus, 'manly', or such is my understanding of the etymology anyhow. There is a river Fergus in Ireland, possibly NI? I like the name.

MaggieBeauLeo · 22/08/2009 08:39

Are they not? wow. that's nuacht to me!

love Fergus. Fergus and Clodagh would make a very good sibling st then. Kind of cheesey-lite theme, but only if you catch it!

JeanLouiseFinch · 24/08/2009 00:38

Love Fergus
