Imagine it said with a Scottish accent

I just can't get past the Jasper Carrot sketch where he talks about when you've been sick and then you get to the bit where nothing is coming up and you are going 'ruuuuuuutttthhhh' - sorry, he's ruined the name for me!

I do love Scottish accents though

sadiemcgrady · 12/08/2009 07:24

Oh dear, never seen that one!

it's lovely! (my middle name so a bit biased but still!)

ADriedFrogForTheBursar · 12/08/2009 07:31

it's at the end of this sketch here sorry bella!!

TheOldestCat · 12/08/2009 07:31

Nope, not harsh - think it's strong and pretty.

FlightHattendant · 12/08/2009 07:36

It's fine

I knew a girl at school everyone hated and sadly it tinged my view...but it's a fair enough name.

It's a shame that the word 'ruthless' has negative connotations when in fact it's the fatc there is a lack of 'ruth' int he situation that is so bad

MamaLazarou · 12/08/2009 08:36

No, not at all, it's lovely.

MrsBadger · 12/08/2009 08:47

I like it, was on shortlist for DD

like Rachel or Helen is is pretty but not soft or frilly

notsoteenagemum · 12/08/2009 08:48

I was just saying to Dh last night how you don't hear of any babies called Ruth even though it's a lovely name.

Ceolas · 12/08/2009 08:50

I like it. Agree with MrsB, pretty but not frilly.

We are debating Miriam or Ruth if DC5 (due Saturday) is a girl.

WinkyWinkola · 12/08/2009 08:51

Ruth is a really plain name IMO. Miriam is smashing.

Ceolas · 12/08/2009 08:53

I like plain

DontCallMeBaby · 12/08/2009 08:55

It's a lovely name. Maybe sounds 'harsh' because we're in a pocket of time in which the vast majority of popular girls' names end in an 'ee' sound?

Disclaimer: DD ends in 'ee' and I am a monosyllable, so representing both sides!

MrsBadger · 12/08/2009 08:57

oh Miriam is lovely

After the Great DD Naming Furore I have come round to Plain too, to the extent that this one might actually be called Jane. Or Susan. Or Anne.

Ceolas · 12/08/2009 08:59

One of my friends has an Anne. We have an Anna. I like them both. Also Jane.

yama · 12/08/2009 09:00

Sadie - I have taught a fair few Ruths (in Scotland) and I think it is a lovely name.

Tommy · 12/08/2009 09:03

Ruth is lovely. If you really want to fancify it, you could halways nick name her Ruthie (which people will call her anyway )

weegiemum · 12/08/2009 09:05

Susan is a lovely name

AvengingGerbil · 12/08/2009 09:11

They need not automatically call her Ruthie. I have a one syllable, non-eee name and no-one has ever dared add an eee or anything else to it

AvengingGerbil · 12/08/2009 09:13

(btw, and cross-refing another post, Ruth is lovely as long as you don't live in that part of the country where there is a congenital inability to pronounce 'th' - Ruth is great, Roof is vile...)

But I see you are in Scotland, so no problem there!

AnathemaDevice · 12/08/2009 09:16

I think it's a lovely name, I'm trying to convince DH we should use it one day.

Bubbaloo · 12/08/2009 09:16

I like it...and I'm called Ruth.

sleeplessinstretford · 12/08/2009 09:24

cthea · 12/08/2009 09:33

Not too keen on Ruth.

pointydog · 12/08/2009 09:33

No! Not harsh. A strong, simple, attractive name
