(actually diamondhead, sorry if I confused you, I might have name changed since we last crossed paths - I'm the woman of great taste that has an Albert and Fred too! )

rosiest · 12/08/2009 21:15

When we had him nearly 6 years ago literally everyone we mentioned to that we were calling him Teddy was like No ! You can't call a child that! But it is becoming more and more popular and I love it. Plus it really suits him and did as soon as I saw him!

Issy123 · 12/08/2009 21:38

Hi Diamond head/ Strongblack coffee, how old are your Alberts? Are they Bertie or Albie or neither?

strongblackcoffee · 12/08/2009 23:06

Hi Issy! My Albert is 3.5 - we always intended him to be a Bert, but never moved past calling him Albert. Now if we ever try to call him anything else he gets really cross! Funnily enough he has a friend at nursery called Albie, I just think of them as two different names.

It's really nice to read this thread - I appreciate there are always going to be people who hate the name (including my parents), but I had no idea it was getting even remotely trendy! It made me laugh!

Tidey · 12/08/2009 23:08

Albie the racist dragon, from FOTC. That was my immediate reaction. Apologies.

Issy123 · 13/08/2009 10:52

Strongblackcoffee I think its sweet your DS does not want his name shortened. My Albert is 8 months we started off calling him Albert, then we to shortened it to Albie, but he gets called both by family etc.
Albie on its own it too much of a nickname for my taste.

My parents did not like the name either. But DH's parents love it. Its one of those names that people seem to either love or hate.

I am pleased to see it is viewed by some as trendy its quite nice being a trend setter.

Lovely.

wotzy · 13/08/2009 16:09

I know some Als, who are either Albert, Alan or Alvin

nice short or not

holytoast · 17/10/2009 23:45

ooh, been looking for a thread where someone has asked about Albert- my sort of step great grandad was always uncle bert - loved him, an amazing man, and am not enamoured of any other boys names - Albert is the only one we both like - figure he can be bertie, Albie when baby, Al or Albert when older, bert when he is a grandad!

tummytickler · 18/10/2009 10:11

I love Albert, but really don't like the nn of Albie (which is what put us off using it!).
Ds goes to school with an Albie who is just Albie (age 7), i prefer Bertie as a nn though.
I prefer Bertram and Gilbert out of all the 'bert' names, i am always surprised they are not more popular!

TanyaBranning · 18/10/2009 10:12

OK. Quite like Albie.

Nibbler · 12/06/2011 23:24

Omg Rosiest- weird flippy tummy here. Just googled ds4's name (preparing for our twinnie's naming ceremony) and saw this discussion thread, so thought I would have a read. The reason I have a flippy tummy is that we have 4 sons, Ted, Bobby, Tommy and Albie! What are the chances of us having the same combination of 3 (unusualish) names?!?!?!?!?!

PrincessJenga · 12/06/2011 23:35

Love it. In fact, it's top of our list. This thread actually has me worried that it's getting too common!

emmyloo2 · 13/06/2011 07:52

Me likes! Albie or Bertie are both cute.

Someone else mentioned Teddy which I think is adorable. I want me next DS (if I have one) to be Theodore or Edward with nn Teddy.

My first DS is a George but it was a toss up b/w George or Edward. We went with George.

mopsyflopsy · 13/06/2011 11:28

This thread is 2 years old... I wonder what name the OP chose...

PrincessJenga · 13/06/2011 18:07

Argh. Why do I never realise when I'm posting on ancient threads?! Thanks Mopsy! OP, did you choose Albie? How did it go down?

dexifehatz · 13/06/2011 19:59

I LOVE Albie! I'm still a little peeved that I never used it for our DS; we chose Dexter instead, which in all fairness does suit him!

ensure · 14/06/2011 19:59

I wonder if she did go for Albert. I do like it.

JanMorrow · 15/06/2011 12:41

Albie the raaaacist dragonnn.

Not that that would be put me off at all!
