Aliteration in a name

I'm sure this question has been asked lots of times before but I thought I'd ask other people's opinions as well. Even though me and DH have said we're not thinking about names yet - I secretely have.

We're not sure what we're having as I'm only 17 weeks pregnant - and we're not going to find out till its born.

I've always wanted to call a girl Elly (or maybe spelt Ellie) after my Gran - who unfortuntely recently passed away. However my DH surname is pronounced Isles and spelt with an E. Is that too much aliteration with a name?

I don't think its so bad, there's alot worse things you can have in a name than that (eg: really ugly name, sounds like a bad word..)
If you love the name I don't think its a big deal

I don't see the problem.
It sounds from what you say that the aliteration is only there when the name is written down, not when you say that name - like say Ellie Ellington.

Ds's first name and surname begin with the same letter but actually flow really nicely because each beginning letter is pronounced slightly differently, which would be the same for you.

Thanks for that - thats reassured me a lot. Even though we haven't discussed names I think we know what we'd like - Ellie for my Gran and Thomas for DH Grandad as he was very close to him.

I can see we'd have pitfulls with jealous Grandparents though on Dh side but I'm not too happy with them at the moment anyway. Went and showed scan photos to them today and they said how much they'd prefer a boy - to carry on the family name - its really annoyed me. DH doesn't mind at all its so annoying!

I did this. One of my children's names is aliterative. I love it. I was told not to though! But nobody stumbles over his name, nobody every forgets his name!

I think that alliteration in names can sound really nice. If you love the name, then go for it! I don't see a problem!

I like alliterative names. Our surname begins with a hard C and I wanted Kirsty for a girl.

My son's name is alliterative as well. We rejected a lot of R names for this reason but the only name we both liked ended up being an R name and it's long enough that it works.

Cheers thinking it might have to be Eleanor for a full name as well - even though I'd want to shorten it.
