Dp is set on this, but I really am not keen. I may give in and have Jean as a middle name.
What do you think?

Oh no. Oh no no no. Do you leave in Scotland? If not, then come up and you'll see that every family (well, not every!) has a Great Aunt Jeannie who is about 83 and usually found pulling a shopping trolley home from the Coappie with her messages.

I think this spelling with two 'n' is awful and made up and creative. Looks better with one 'n'.
I don't like it. It looks like a nickname.

I love Jean. Jean and Joan are high on our list for dc5. if you dont like it then dont use it though. i could never use a name that i didn't love.

Problem with Jean is that it is John in French. Thus the hotel/resort/mini club will assume you are arriving with a boy (as when you tell them you have a 'Nicola'). Not that it necessarily matters. After all they then go and have Jean-Marie! Think Jean (girl) is Jeanne - but then other folk here apparently think that's chavvy.

Oh but (recent threads) there WAS a French Balthazar in the mini club last week. Along with a Theo (and Lucie/Emilie/Chloe) - similar name thoughts transcend borders...

I don't live in scotland but I really like it.

I like dizzy's suggestion of jeannie as a nn for Eugenie. Lovely. Bit different without trying too hard.

Huh? I don't understand the connection to Scotland, and I've never met a Jeannie. How can Joanie be OK but Jeannie not ok.

I had an aunty Jeannie (Scottish) and she was short and fat. Dont name it Jeannie.

I have a middle aged Scottish aunt Jeanie, her real name is Jean.
It's an awful name. It's like that naffo I Dream of Jeannie series, after the film (I dream of Jeanie) but they messed with the spelling typically.
