Just found out we are having another DD.

Love the name Floriana and in Italy its an old name but not at all poncey.

Its a bit poncey in English isn't it?

If for everyday use she's called Florrie, then it's fine.

I think yelling Floriana across the playground would however be..... poncey! Sorry.

susie100 · 07/08/2009 15:38

Yes, as I thought. I do love it though. Maybe I will be able to get over the ponce factor!

Yes it is poncey...

But then we fell in love with an Italian name for DD too (Sienna) and that was before Ms Miller came along (groan). We did use it and though it's poncey (or is it now common?) we still like it! :-)

agree Florrie would be a good way to disguise it...or Ana...

susie100 · 07/08/2009 15:42

DD1 is called Mafalda so we might just have to resign ourselves to poncedom. Its ok if you are foreign isn't it???? I LOVE Sienna.

Yes 'fraid so - a tad poncy.

oopsacoconut · 07/08/2009 15:48

My cat is called Floriana - Flo for short. We used it on the cat when we thought we weren't having babies!

I don't think it's overly poncy, I like it. You can always call her Flo or Flori for everyday 'across the playground' purposes.

MrsBadger · 07/08/2009 15:50

yes
she will be Florrie to all by the time she is 2

pick something equally distinguished but less unusual - Caroline? Anastasia? Clarissa?

mrsradders · 07/08/2009 17:36

ooh i like it but then i seem to like poncy names...xx

mopsyflopsy · 07/08/2009 17:50

I love Floriana! (I also love Florian for a boy!)

But then I seem to love what many Brits call 'poncy' names (I'm not British either) and my children have very 'poncy' names . I love them, though!!

stuffitlllama · 07/08/2009 17:51

extremely poncy, a bit bubble-bath fragrance, excellent, go for it

across the playground.. flori aaaaaaaaaaa na

honeydew · 07/08/2009 17:57

I like it but it does sound like a fragrance. She will get 'Florrie' most of the time but it is feminine. Do you think it will sound good for her when she is 40 though? You have to consider how she may feel having such an unusual name when she is an adult.

Perhaps use it as a middle name instead?

susie100 · 11/08/2009 08:49

Ok so we are almost all agreed, totally poncey but I still love it and think I might have to go fo rit

it's pretty. Not poncey at all.

really irritates me when names are considered poncey. It's a real name fgs, what's poncey about it?

I like it, Florrie is quite cute too

I like Eliana as well

cthea · 11/08/2009 10:49

It's very pretty. It doesn't sound poncey to me (but I'm not English), just v feminine. I also like Florina and Florentin but not keen on Florence.

cthea · 11/08/2009 10:50

I meant Florentina for a girl. Not keen on the boys' names Flori(a)n or Florentin as I think they sound too feminine.

LionstarBigPants · 11/08/2009 10:51

I know a baby Floreana, suits her. I think it's quite pretty without being too out-there.

susie100 · 11/08/2009 10:53

Yay, am loving the new love for Floriana, my mind is made up I think.

MmeLindt · 11/08/2009 10:56

I like it, very pretty.

It does depend on where you live. If you are on a dodgy council estate then she might get teased, if you are in Chelsea then she will fit right in.

KAEKAE · 11/08/2009 14:22

I like it, I like Florence but can't have because it rymes with our surname, so this is a name I am liking the sound of. I like Flo and Florrie as I would with Florence.

donnie · 11/08/2009 14:24

Floriana scores highly on the ponce- o - meter. However, Florrie, as one of the Fimbles' names, is much, much worse.

BonsoirAnna · 11/08/2009 14:28

Floriane is a French brand of children's character clothing.
