We quite like Wilfred and would probably shorten to Wilf or Wilfie but does it sound mental with our surname??? I have lost all sense of reason what with hormones and all that. DH thinks its ok but he is crackers so his opinion is not to be trusted .

I love names like this. I used to know a Molly McCarthy and thought that was a great name.

bleh · 29/07/2009 12:48

No. No no no no. The poor child

Tortington · 29/07/2009 12:49

are you insane

Iklboo · 29/07/2009 12:49

Hmm - not for me to say but it does sound a bit like a 30s footballer

HeadFairy · 29/07/2009 12:49

Could you not call him Freddie Wilson?

janeite · 29/07/2009 12:50

Nope, sorry but nope. Use it as a middle name, if you must use it.

jujubean · 29/07/2009 12:50

The cat is called Freddie so can't use that name.

I like alliterative names
the monogram would look like a heart monitor

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 29/07/2009 12:53

Rename rehome the cat.

PortBlacksandResident · 29/07/2009 12:56

Love it! Sounds very distinguished.

HuffwardlyRouge · 29/07/2009 12:59

Oooh, Wilfred Wilson sounds like an explorer or a writer. Love it.

(Must admit to slight bias having a little Wilfie sitting on my knee and sharing my toast as I type )

hocuspontas · 29/07/2009 13:00

Wilfie Wilson sounds like you are trying too hard to me. Agree about alternative arrangements for the cat. Fred/Freddie Wilson is fab

TsarChasm · 29/07/2009 13:01

Oh please no, don't.

alardi · 29/07/2009 13:03

Oh dear, I am in a minority, I think that they do work well together! . I'd call him Freddie for short, mind.

moondog · 29/07/2009 13:03

You have answered your own question.
Snort at heart monitor.

thehairybabysmum · 29/07/2009 13:04

yes it does sound mental...sorry.

Ledodgy · 29/07/2009 13:05

I ruled out Adam because my children's surname is Adams. That and because my first born is called Eve. I actually like Wilfred Wilson although he may get called Willie Wilson in school...

lottiejenkins · 29/07/2009 13:17

I have a Wilfred! I think Wilfred Wilson sounds nice!

jujubean · 29/07/2009 14:08

I know Wilfred might not be everyone's cup of tea, but the question was more about a 'W' christian name with the Wilson surname. I like Bertie too but DH's favourite is Monty which seems to be the de-rigeur (sp?) boys name in our town at the moment so for that reason I've gone off it.
Let hope its a girl, girl's name is all sorted and much easier!

OP posts:
jujubean · 29/07/2009 14:09

p.s. girl's name begins with M so unfortunately have same heart monitor monogram issue

When i had my Wilfred my mother didnt know what to say........There was a lot of stuttering on the end of the phone, then she said "I will have to get used to that name" To which i replied "Yes you will wont you Mum!" No problems since then!!

AvengingGerbil · 29/07/2009 15:39

Brutal.

Sidge · 29/07/2009 15:42

Willie Wilson?

No.

BonsoirAnna · 29/07/2009 15:43

Wilfred Wilson? Oh no, please don't inflict this on your child.

Wilson is quite a plain surname, so something a bit more adventurous/unusual is a very good idea. But not Wilfrid.

Jonas
Leif
Drago

I know, I know but for boys names we're totally stuck. I like all traditional boys names like Edward, William, Rupert and my fave Bertie but DH went to posh school and so he know's someone with all those names and point blank refuses to use them. ARRRGGGHHHHH. So far Wilfred is the only name we can agree on but then we have the unfortunate surname situation.
