Charlie and Dora for short, to go with older sister Libi? Any potential pitfalls envisaged?

They are brilliant names. I also like Dot or Dolly as nicknames for Dorothy.

brimfull · 16/07/2009 08:19

dora the explorer

my ds's friends mother is called dora and the kids find it hysterical

MamaLazarou · 16/07/2009 08:25

I was trying not to mention the explorer! But yes, the connection would be pointed out instantly, and often.

belgo · 16/07/2009 08:37

Dora the Explorer isn't a bad connection though is it? Not enough to put you off using the name.

Charles and Dorothy are fine if you like them.

Boodlerpoop · 16/07/2009 09:54

I like those Think Dot is nicer abbreviation for Dorothy tho...

paisleyleaf · 16/07/2009 10:05

Chuck n Dot sound fun

LilRedWG · 16/07/2009 10:07

Lovely names.

thell · 16/07/2009 11:25

Fab fab fab!
(especially as I like the nicknames - Libi is also really nice, well done you!)

fustilarian · 16/07/2009 23:06

What is Dora the explorer? Not quite at the tv character stage with DD one... Is it/she a particularly bad/offputting personality then?

both lovely names and they go well together

Clure · 19/07/2009 12:08

nice names, not sure about Dora- prefer Dot or Dotty

fustilarian · 19/07/2009 19:17

thanks everyone, might go for isaac instead of charles now, but dorothy looking more likely- with a possible dodie as nickname..........

Charles goes better than Isaac (with Dorothy) imho

LoveBuckets · 19/07/2009 20:01

Dora the Explorer is a v worthy educational cartoon. My DS1 was speaking Spanish at 2 thanks to her!

I prefer Dorothea to Dorothy, bit more glamourous IMO. I LOVE Isaac though, Ike for short? Of course nicknames usually end up longer rather than short, she'll be Dillydollydoodah or something for the first 5years.

jellybeans · 20/07/2009 13:38

I am not keen, abit old fashioned.

teddygirl23 · 20/07/2009 16:03

agree with lovebuckets dorothea has the wdge over dorothy.

Fimbo · 20/07/2009 16:07

In Scotland it would likely be Chick & Dot.

Lakota · 20/07/2009 16:15

My aunt is Dorothy, and she is known as Doll or Dolly. It never seemed odd to us!

mrsradders · 22/07/2009 10:57

i like a friend has a little boy called charles and another did consider dorothy but changed mind..i think dotty is lovely.
