Alison?

I thought I had the name thing sussed (which with 14 weeks to go is pretty good) but lately find myself really liking "Alison". I know it's kind of 70s -there were heaps of them at school and I am in my 30s - but somehow I imagine my Alison to be sparky and outgoing. How do others see it?

bit dull

MrsSpringsteen · 12/07/2009 21:55

chic totally

hambler · 12/07/2009 22:45

cute as hell.
Love it

Tinker · 12/07/2009 22:59

Think it's a very straight name. Similar to Gillian to me.

tigerbear · 12/07/2009 23:04

Dull and boring, sorry!

weegiemum · 12/07/2009 23:08

See I don't think of Alison as 70's cos my mum is Alison!

Susan - that's quality 70's

In my classes were lots of Claire/Clare, Amanda, Gillian, Louise, Elaine, Jane, Karen, Julie, Heather.

godzillasbumcheek · 12/07/2009 23:11

I like the name Alison. I know a young woman i respect very much named Alison - outgoing, confident, type i can imagine going rock-climbing and things.

Have i sold it yet?

godzillasbumcheek · 12/07/2009 23:12

Oh - and not butch btw, still feminine but not overly fluffy.

BecauseImWorthIt · 12/07/2009 23:15

I'm liking you much more than some of these other posters, godzilla ...

expatinscotland · 12/07/2009 23:16

I like it! I have a good friend called Alison and she's way cool.

LackaDAISYcal · 12/07/2009 23:17

I always thought I'd call my DD Alison, mainly because of the Elvis Costello track.

I like it

Snufflebufty · 12/07/2009 23:18

I'm an Allison (with the double l ) still not sure if I totally like it to be truthful (you would think I would know by now being a child of the (early) 70's). I dont know many others with this name, so it's ok really

serinBrightside · 13/07/2009 00:39

I like it.

alipiggie · 13/07/2009 00:51

Another Alison here and I'm a sixties baby by the way. And I'm not fat either . It's a great name and the diminutives are great too. I've always like my name. But no pressure obviously.a

helpivegottogivebirth · 13/07/2009 03:11

i like 70s names - was considering jennifer for my daughter born 5 weeks ago.

Alison is great

ludog · 13/07/2009 07:05

There's an Alison, aged 9 in dd3's class. I think it's a lovely name.

mumofmaniacs · 13/07/2009 07:19

I'm an Alison/Ali (80's) and not keen. Would sound silly if I wanted to marry Boris Johnson

Pyrocanthus · 13/07/2009 11:35

Yes alipiggie, I've just realized how old I am, and that Alison, Susan, etc. are all 60s names

harpsichordcarrier · 13/07/2009 11:41

haha hard for me to be objective
it's a great name, and there are LOTS of songs about us!
shortened versions are all good too
go for it

MaggieBeeBeau · 13/07/2009 16:03

I don't know. I sort of like names that are out of fashion. I know of a baby Richie and I love Melanie which is a my generation name.... I kind of like Alison. Different but normal. If you love it, go for it.

plonker · 13/07/2009 23:16

Another signing in ...

I've always hated it though, and much prefer to be called Ali ...

worzella · 13/07/2009 23:25

Another one here! I'm an Al though - definitely not an Ali

harpsichordcarrier · 13/07/2009 23:30

I keep thinking that this thread is calling for me
by the way, I am sparky and outgoing and also (it seems) self-obsessed

BecauseImWorthIt · 14/07/2009 09:40

Not as obsessed as the woman on Twitter who only follows women called Alison!

Ledodgy · 14/07/2009 09:42

One of my best friends is called Alison and is always known as Ali. She's lovely.
