vanimal · 09/07/2009 16:15

I am after some help naming my gorgeous daughter.

It has to be an Indian name, beginning with K.

Any ideas, or do you know of anyone with a K name (whether you like it or not).

Can't find anything out there!

thanks all

blimey, don't be calling your daughter after Pandavas' mother (Ku.....)

loobylu3 · 09/07/2009 16:56

I have an aunt called Kamala and a cousin called Kavita both of which are pretty. That is an amazing list madre!!

shoshe · 09/07/2009 17:02

A South African Friend of Indian Descent is called Kamini. I love it.

vanimal · 09/07/2009 19:53

Ooooh - these are great, thank you guys!

MN rocks

Karishma?

wrinklytum · 09/07/2009 21:17

I worked with a Kavita...sorry not much help otherwise, have you tried baby naming websites?

MarthaFarquhar · 09/07/2009 21:20

kajal
kiran

nomorecake · 09/07/2009 21:37

on that long list, just noticed kanjri and kamini - dont go for these!! they have different meanings, to those on the list, in other parts of asia. (or they sound like words that dont have good meanings)

i like:
kiran
kareena

more traditional kaushalya.

vanimal · 09/07/2009 23:30

Ah, good point about kanjri and kamini - I didn't think about that.

My older daughter is called Kajal, and the favourites for this one are Kiran or Kareena at the moment.

Anyone here think that having a kajal and a kareena is too cheesy (a la bollywood actress names)?

womblingalong · 10/07/2009 09:13

Too Cheesy for me, I do love Kiran though, and Kavita 0r Kaya, for an easy for a Non Indian person to pronounce name!

WhatSheSaid · 10/07/2009 09:20

I know a little girl called Kerala (dad Indian, mum Australian)

sis · 10/07/2009 09:50

I like Kavita mainly because it means poem/poetry.

Sunshinemummy · 10/07/2009 10:03

I know a Kavita and a Kiran (mother and daughter). Kavita is called Kate by all her friends. Both lovely names.

loobylu3 · 10/07/2009 10:26

Kiran is okay but can be used as a boy's name too so is not feminine enough for me personally.
Kareena is pretty and perhaps more multicultural sounding (Carina). It could also be shortened to Reena which is pretty. Oh, and I think it is easier for the average British person to pronounce too than Kiran or Kavita which sound prettier said with an Indian accent!
I'm not sure if they are bollywood type names as I'm not into bollywood movies I'm afraid!! I certainly don't think most people in this country would think of that at all!
Good luck choosing!

nomorecake · 10/07/2009 11:11

Kamal is nice, but only with the proper indian pronounciation.
sounds wrong in english.

passionfruity · 10/07/2009 12:02

Kamal = Camel?!
Kashi - Cushy?

My faves from the list are:
Kaia / Keya
Kala (sounds like Carla)
Katrina
Kavita
Keva

mumoverseas · 10/07/2009 13:08

i went to school with a Kavita. Lovely name

nomorecake · 10/07/2009 13:09

the proper pronounciation, isnt camel or cushy.
so living here, it makes more sense to choose names that sound ok in english too.

chandellina · 15/07/2009 21:28

i know a Kaveri - really like that name

aiti72 · 16/07/2009 21:13

Kamala is 'horrible' in Finnish. Personally, I will always remember this name as it's quite... horrible. Good thing is nobody should care about what the Finns think
