Coolness is a personality trait, it's not bestowed by a name.

blametheparents · 01/07/2009 12:20

All of DS's class are pretty square really!
Not sure there are many cool kids

hulabula · 01/07/2009 12:30

Agree with SoupDragon!

A name can never MAKE someone cool or uncool. Whether someone is popular has to do with their personality, not their name.

I've known 'cool' guys whose names have ranged from Zubin to Quentin to Jayden to Peter!

BoysAreLikeDogs · 01/07/2009 12:31

Quite, Soupy

annasmami · 01/07/2009 12:50

Also agree that names are no indicator of 'coolness' imo.

Tends to work the other round, i think. We know a cool (or uncool) 'X' and then that name has this association for us.

MaggieBeeBeau · 01/07/2009 14:04

Bruce, Victor, Donald, Redmond, Richie, Gus

I agree of course, a name doesn't make you cool, but if children had these names, I'd expect their parents to have good taste generally and be quite cool.

May I ask why?

TwoSunnyDays · 01/07/2009 18:11

Sam Charlie Zach Leon Carl Ben Luke William Edward Jack

MrsSeanBean · 01/07/2009 18:14

According to the book 'Cool names for babies', a name has to end in 'o' to be truly 'cool'. For example: Otto, Cosmo, Bruno, Theo, Leo.

NotKeenOnFish · 01/07/2009 21:00

dh's favourite name is Quentin. I've heard (and read on MN) that is considered geeky and nerdy, which I thought was very judgemental as I agree with Soupy, surely a name doesn't 'make' a person?

So I thought, well if Quentin is 'nerdy' what is 'cool'? Hence the thread.

None of the Quentin's I know are 'geeky' - my 8 year old nephew is Quentin and he is very cool (not that I'm biased of course).

sockmonster · 01/07/2009 22:40

Isaac? Finn? Hugh? Bay Atlas... oh ok not that one

tricky one, I'd love to call a ds cosmo but DH won't let me!!Says he will sound like a gremlin- I think other 'o' names can be a bit 10 years ago now though-

Not sure about Quentin. I love Quentin Blake of course but all the other Quentins are, erm, less loved, and not cool, but could be ironically cool if that makes sense...

angrypixie · 01/07/2009 22:54

Cool boys in DD class;
Cassius
Isaac
Ben
Rufus
Marcus

serin · 02/07/2009 00:13

I like Quentin pronounced with a French accent "Contan" but don't like the English way of saying it at all.

Jonny, Jonny cool

sophiesmummie · 02/07/2009 08:16

What a ridiculous question! I completely agree with Soupdragan (and others) that 'coolness' cannot be bestowed by a name! I find the concept quite ridiculous to be honest...

I happen to have known a very cool Quentin at Uni, universally known as 'Q' .

my son has some pretty cool friends and their names are Dappo, Dempsey and Mason.

i personally think Hector is the coolest boys name closely followed by Huxley.

dottyaboutstripes · 02/07/2009 11:01

The other day someone said my DS2 had the "coolest name I've ever heard"

He's called Arlo...and he's pretty cool for a 2 yr old

sophiesmummie · 02/07/2009 11:04

Who wouldn't think their ds (and the name they gave him) was cool?

NotKeenOnFish · 02/07/2009 11:06

Thanks for pointing that out Lockets

Sophiesmummies you obv. missed the bit where I said I also agreed with Soupys point
