Piers...is it ridiculous to have fallen for this *sort of* name?

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the name Piers. I also love Miles (slightly different connotations) but it is already 'taken' by friends. I'm just not sure that we're a 'Piers' sort of family.

So what sort of a person names their son Piers?

i think it is nice and after seeing piers morgan do he rocking out thing on britains got talant i'm now a converted fan! lol

i think if you like it then great and as for the sort of family..i think if friends have a 'miles' then piers would be ok, its different but not odd!!

Go for it - I think the boundries as to what is a posh name and what isn't etc is so blurred nowadays.

I know some very un-posh Olivias, Grace, Edwards etc, names I used to think of as posh but are now quite normal.

I don't think you'd find many Piers on council estates but that doesn't make it a bad name!

If you like it, go for it, you're the one that will have to be yelling it five times a day so you might as well like it!

Agree that the notion of 'posh' names is becoming less relevant. I know quite a few Edwards, Quentins and Sebastians who are not at all posh .

I'd go for Piers, assuming it sound nice with your surname.

I like it. I like Guy too. GUy and Piers would have been a bit oh excuse you 40 years ago, but I think the names people are using today, Piers sounds too normal to be really pretentious.

I know a few Pierces (not unusual in Ireland) but I prefer the sound of Piers.

Much prefer Peter to Piers. Sounds a bit drippy to me ! I'd put it in the same category as Linus.

Nothing wrong with Miles - although I prefer it ye olde english way of Myles

oh and as for Myles being mainstream - I guess it depends on what their first name is - and DS3'sd could never be called mainstream - well not in the UK anyhow

Ah go for it - it's a good name (although it always reminds me of that drippy bloke who played opposite Alan B'stard in The New Statesman)
