Partner and i have completely different naming tastes. To be honest i'm embarassed to give him my suggestions now because of his reactions! So i have an enormous list of names here, and before i read them to him, i would appreciate more conservative types to 'trim it down' in a way that you think might be a compromise between our styles, removing the names you think are just way out there.

I know he likes traditional names and welsh names and victorian romance names like Guinevere (provided they have a history) and again he likes literary names although nothing 'negative' like Ophelia, he dislikes trendy american type names (Hayden etc), or names that sound 'chavvy' (Chelsea etc). He dislikes names that are 'flowery' like Anastasia or 'foreign' i.e Alessandra, which should be Alexandra in his opinion! HOWEVER, he would probably bend if i could offer a more familiar nickname, such as Lexi for Alexandra, or Rosie for Rosamonde or Jessie for Jessamine? Maybe, lol.

He likes:
Emma, Sophie, Jessie, Rosie, Morgan, Alexandra, Cynthia, Guinevere (not sure if i like this myself tho!), Iris, Amy.

While i really like some these names i would resent being made to name my child something conventional because i myself have always dreamed of using an unusual name and he has chosen the middle name, i even changed my own name to something more exotic (although it's becoming trendy now, lol)

I like Seraphine. What about Zola, there is a Zola in my dd's school and i have always thought it was lovely!

I sometimes think that children should not be named until they are at least one year old, by which time they will have developed some personality and it will be obvious if they are going to be really tall or tiny. (My miniscule FIL was saddled with HECTOR poor soul.) Most importantly, Mum and Dad will have returned to reality and will be able to choose a suitable and reasonably sensible name.

As to this list - delete ALL names that require explanation or pronounciation advice. If I was forced to choose I would have Alexandra because 1) It should have been my name but my hormonal Mother changed her mind and gave me a pair of really couthy names; 2) It is a name that can be adapted to suit later in life to Alex, Lexy, Xandra, Sandie etc.

Is this not going to confuse you more? I thought I had a long list when I was expecting dts and that was choices for two!

Alexandra (my cousin's name) is lovely and a nickname could be Sasha, from your list I like:

Callisto
Juno
Alexi
Seraphine
Sky
Vivienne (viv-ee-EN) - too common? No but there is the choice of Vianne too.
Rhianwen (ree-AAN-wen) What about Rhian?
Rhiannon
Eden
Mercedes
Anastasia
Aurelia (aw-ree-lee-a)
Seren
Saoirse (seer-sha)
Phoenix
Honour - not spelled Honor?
Aurielle (aw-ree-EL)
Arielle
Hermione
Kyra (Keye-ra)
Violet - a bit boring an old ladyish? No I think it is cute and if my dad had a choice it was to have been my name!
Helene (hel-ayn)
Serenity - really like this one!
Unity
Liberty (my mum loves this lol)
Tanith
Willow (he hates this i think, again, flaky.)
Ardenne

How far have you got to go? IMO you can use more inventive names with girls than boys, then again there is a Zefron in my son's class!
