Hermione - we like the grandeur but not the association - alternatives?

My partner and i think Hermione is a gorgeous name. Unfortunately neither of us likes Harry Potter! Can you suggest any other names that have that classical feeling? I think Hermione sounds quite grand, unusual, and sophisticated. I can't think of any alternatives.

Just go for Hermione. HP won't be popular forever and even if it does have some associations for some people, at least she's a very positive role model for girls (clever, sassy, talented, etc.). You can always abbreviate it to Mya (or she can when she's older).

But I know what you mean - I have always loved the name Juno, but the association with the film puts me off slightly now.

Hermia in a midsummmer nights dream is a variation of Hermionie (but saying that it does sound it Hernia!)

I would stick with Hermione, but the time your daughter is at school the films will all be well gone and by the time she is a grown up no one will be able t remember it, they will just think it is a pretty name.

We had a very dignified, quiet, educated French teacher once whose name was Hermance.

Oh goodness, you have reminded me...we know a family with a Bathsheba and an Octavia. I think it's impressive and also quite that they were brave enough.
