A - my - ya

MaryBS · 25/06/2009 07:15

I'd probably go for A-may-a, but I might say A-my-a...

WhatSheSaid · 25/06/2009 07:19

A-my-a

I looked after a girl called Amaaya, that's how her name was pronounced.

JackBauer · 25/06/2009 07:25

A-my-a here as well.

Deemented · 25/06/2009 07:28

Am - may - yah, i think.

EachPeachPearMum · 25/06/2009 07:39

A-Myeyah

piscesmoon · 25/06/2009 07:52

I would never go for a name that it difficult to pronounce,if you are thinking of it, she will have a lifetime of explaining it and spelling it.

TrillianAstra · 25/06/2009 07:54

ah-MY-yah

OrmIrian · 25/06/2009 07:59

I wouldn't.

MrsBun · 25/06/2009 10:25

Thing is I have a fairly recognized name but STILL have to spell it out sometimes. I figured if it is short it doesnt matter so much unlike Tallulah for example?? Does anyone think it is pretty? I would pronounce it at Ah -my -ya

claireybee · 25/06/2009 10:29

Uh may a or uh my a

bethoo · 25/06/2009 10:29

yes it is lovley.
my dd is called Maia and it is pronounced my-a
be warned though no matter how often you tell people her name they will still pronounce it wrong! people sometimes call her Mia pronounced mee-ya which annoys me! i always say think of how you would say thai and it rhymmes with that!

MrsBun · 25/06/2009 10:30

Thanks Claireybee uh-my-a is more like it.

Thanks Bethoo. I think it's really pretty and different. I find girls names sooooo much harder.

I know a little girl with this name and its pronounced Ah-may-ah.
I think it is a very pretty girly name and wouldnt rule it out if I ever had a girl

Lissya · 25/06/2009 11:55

Ah-may-ah.

Very pretty.

magbags · 25/06/2009 14:58

Ah-my-ah.

Nice name as long as your surname is not a noun like mine. eg Amaia Lemon

clemette · 25/06/2009 15:03

A-may-a.
Does it have Asian roots?

Astrophe · 25/06/2009 15:06

I would assume am-EYE-ah.

shoobidoo · 25/06/2009 18:35

I'd say Ah-my-ah.

Lovely name!

qumquat · 08/07/2009 19:40

A-my-a, lovely name! I first came across it in the Basque country, it's a very popular name there, along with Ainara, (I-na-ra)which I also love, but I don't think you could get away with it here as people would pronounce in I-naah-ra, but I think Amaia does work in the uk, I think most people would guess the pronunciation right.
