Someone just told me this was on their shortlist. I love it, I want it...

Can't can I?

BigusBumus · 24/06/2009 19:08

Its not a girls name, its a fabric. Like acrylic, viscose and nylon.

Tidey · 24/06/2009 19:08

It does sound more like a pet's name than a child's, imvho. Like a tiny wee baby rabbit.

TwoIfBySea · 24/06/2009 19:09

She would need to have dark hair and like riding horses.

Greensleeves · 24/06/2009 19:09

I think it's lovely

Tortington · 24/06/2009 19:09

its also used as a descriptive term for a vagina

tipping the velvet

velvet glove etc

Tidey · 24/06/2009 19:11

Why not Silk or Satin or Polly-Esther?

hobbgoblin · 24/06/2009 19:11

Yes it's the name of a fabric but that doesn't matter does it, names need to have meaning beyond the name. Leo means lion, Gordon means triangular hill...

hobbgoblin · 24/06/2009 19:12

Bonneville · 24/06/2009 19:15

Its NOT A NAME!!!!!!!!!! Its silly. Whatever next?!

seeker · 24/06/2009 19:17

Terry-Lyn is nice for a girl.

And don't forget the more traditional Polly Esther.

IDidntRaiseAThief · 24/06/2009 19:18

immediately thought 'Tipping the Velvet 'too.

big no here.

sobloodystupid · 24/06/2009 19:19

my sister has chosen a name remarkably similar to above, velvet not poly esther!. I daren't mention it here in case she googles...

earlyriser · 24/06/2009 19:22

Not Velour sbs?

seeker · 24/06/2009 19:23

Candlewick? Nice Dickensian type name for a boy?

TabithaTwitchet · 24/06/2009 19:24

Isn't it the name of the girl in National Velvet? (Or is it the horse's name?)

southeastastra · 24/06/2009 19:27

No. It's quite ridiculous.

Nylon is rather nice though, or Gore-tex for a boy.

sweetnitanitro · 24/06/2009 19:32

It sounds like a porn star name, sorry.

sobloodystupid · 24/06/2009 19:33

nah early riser, not velour . but similarish

CornishKK · 24/06/2009 19:33

I loved the book National Velvet, not the name though, makes me think of Kleenex Velvet, soft, soft, soft.

piscesmoon · 24/06/2009 19:35

I wouldn't call it a name-like calling a DC satin or taffeta.
