My hubby really wants to name baby oscar if it is a boy. To be fair he has wanted to call all our other three children oscar, but two were girls and one he eventually agreed to the name i liked...on the basis he gets to name next one!

I really dont like oscar. It makes me think of eastenders and as hubs says he will call baby ozzie...ozzie osbourne! What do you think of the name oscar?

I adore it. My next child..........

bamboobutton · 23/06/2009 16:40

love it, it's my ds's name.

it could be shortened to Oz too, although i tend to call him osky-pops

4madboys · 23/06/2009 16:54

love it, my ds2 is Oscar Reuben, he gets called ozzie bozzy, roo cake, oz but mainly just oscar suprisingly

stillstanding · 23/06/2009 16:59

Like it but don't love it. Very common where I live and imho a little pretentious.

gingertoo · 23/06/2009 17:01

Love it - wanted it for DS3
DH hates it!

bellissima · 23/06/2009 17:05

DH's (Flemish) sister has four boys, including an Oscar and a Victor. Inevitably I tend to refer to the other two as Tango and Foxtrot. (in fact Jerome and Emil - latter one of my fave boy's names).

sophiesmummie · 23/06/2009 17:25

It's ok, but I don't like it particularly... also reminds me of the grouch at sesame street.

Becoming quite common these days, so bear that in mind when making your decision.

makingdotoo · 23/06/2009 18:46

oh yeah how could i forget oscar from sesame street, he was my fave! But still doesnt sway me, i agree its a bit too common now, and just...dont like it. WIll have to come up with some other names to sway DH.

I love the name Oscar but am less keen on Oz. I know an Oscar - he's a lovely bloke!

womma · 24/06/2009 08:05

There are a lot of Oscars about aren't there? If I ever have a son I'd like to call him Ossie though, I just love it.

Go on , let you DH have his way with this one!

BlueberryPancake · 24/06/2009 08:49

I have a French friend whose son is called Oscar and she calls him Oscargo (as in escargo...) it's really sweet. It's a gorgeous name, both in English and in French.

makingdotoo · 24/06/2009 08:50

mmmmmmmm.....nooooo.....i just cant like it. I will have to choose a name, record it over and over on a tape and stick headphones on DH when he is sleeping.

I have told other people it may be oscar however, to placate dh. Its after his grandfather apparently.

I love it, the only thing that would put me off personally is that it's very popular.. depends if that bothers you

pinkpetunia · 24/06/2009 11:59

I don't watch eastenders...

I like Oscar. has a good, mischievous vibe to it.

thumbwitch · 24/06/2009 12:01

So long as your DH doesn't decide to go for Oscarina if it's a girl.....

thell · 28/06/2009 02:06

LOVE Oscar, never watch Eastenders.

oceana · 28/06/2009 06:58

I can't believe how popular it has become. In fact, when DH and I were considering it for DC2, a lovely little boy befriended DH at a park and told him "my name's Oscar. There are 3 other Oscars in the park today". I kid you not, every park I go to with DS1 I hear at least 2/3 different parents calling for their Oscars!

PheasantPlucker · 28/06/2009 07:20

I like it a lot - and called one of my cats Oscar!! (I have 2 girls on the 'human' front and a couple of male pets! )

It is very popular now though.

My DS's name! I love it and he has so many nicknames that we seem to create
