What do you think to the name Rishi?

Maybe imagine him as a man you've never met before - first impressions of what he might be like.

And do you have any other suggestions? I'd like an Indian name which is easily pronounceable for English speakers.

Rishi is lovely. I would imagine him as rather tall and gangly, with an expensive, well-made suit.

If I were a bit less white, I would go for Omar.

I have a son called Rishi and I sometimes wonder whether it sounds like a nickname of a longer name to some people.

I agree with Mama, I would imagine someone tall and slim built with sophisticated clothes.

I love Rohan too, ilovemydog, but I recently realised it was some sort of walking attire shop. Which may not be a bad thing as it makes the name "recognisable" I suppose.

Thanks to the other responses too. Funny that some people imagine a tall, slim person because if he takes after his Dad, that could well be his build.

Although if he takes after me he'll be a little - erm - cuddlier.

Ashwin is a nice Indian name, pronounced 'Ushwin' by my Gujerati speaking dh.

I have seen several meanings for this name from 'star light' to 'wealthy '. It is also an old Anglo Saxon surname meaning 'spear friend '

Yes, I can hear my (Gujarati) MIL saying it and I know what you mean about the pronunciation. The first letter would sound a little bit like the a in "around" or "across" I think?

Rishi, is quite nice, but not all that strong sounding, IME. It does sound a bit like a diminutive

Rohan is also good because of Lord of the Rings connection (Rohan is the place with the horse-riding people)

Zakir, could be Zak for short?

Acquaintances of mine chose the name Seth for their firstborn boy. He is Indian, she is white. They said it worked in both languages.

I absolutely love the name Rishi. Good taste! I know a Rishi, I'm sure his mum told me it means 'wise man' or 'sage' something along those lines. He's a beautiful boy.
I also love Hari (sun) and Raj (King.
Oh, nd if you ask me, never canvas opinion on names... there will always be someone who disagrees and upsets you. I just didn't say a word then dropped the bombshells with my two after they were born...!
