oh I don't know...baby due in 4 weeks - we have sort of decided on Clementine if its a girl, but I'm just not 100% sure... can I really give a child a name I'm not sure about?

Some days I think "Clementine - I LOVE it", and other days I say it alloud to myself and it just sounds too odd, or too wrong, or... something.

DC we already have are Lucia and Elijah.

What should we do? There are no other real options so far.

Clementine is gorgeous! It's different without being weird or embarassing, it's classy without being poncey and it's feminine but sassy instead of being girly-girly.

Would you pronounce it Clemen-teen or Clemen-tyne? Both are fine, but Clemen-teen would stop any annoying references to fruit or 'Oh My Darling Clementine' singsongs!

WowOoo · 20/06/2009 17:05

Think it's lovely and don't think Clem is too bad either.

It does remind me of the fruit but it's lovely and juicy and nice so GOOD!

lucysmum · 20/06/2009 17:08

My Dd3 is Clementine/Clemmie. Her 2 older sisters chose it, I loved it, DH not convinced. But now we love it and so many people comment on it being such a pretty name

fizzpops · 20/06/2009 20:24

Scorpette I call the fruit Clementeens and Clementynes (can't make my mind up) so not sure it would stop everyone but when the OP wrote it I only thought of the name - not a big fruit fan.

And my daughter is a flower name and I only think of the name until I actually see the flower iyswim.

numal · 20/06/2009 21:11

Clementine is gorgeous. Clemency is lovely too. Lucia, Elijah and Clementine or Clemency sound just perfect.

Scorpette · 20/06/2009 21:29

Fizzpops - good point, but kids will always find something in each other's names to make fun of, so even if they do go on about the fruit, it'll hardly be the worst taunt in the world!

toddlerama · 20/06/2009 21:49

It's a fabulous name. Do it! I wanted it but DH wouldn't let me.

Lilyloo · 20/06/2009 21:55

I called dd2 a name dp chose.
He wanted it for dd1 , i didn't like it. Agreed for dd2 as was sure she was a boy.
I am getting used to it and she is growing into it but sometimes wonder if i will ever really love it like i do ds and dd1 name.
(sorry)
I do like it btw

macherie · 20/06/2009 21:59

I love clementine

sleeplessinstretford · 22/06/2009 09:01

love it, my american friend has a little girl called clementine (to go with christopher and baby winston..) love it!

bumptwitknocker · 22/06/2009 14:31

It's pretty, but I wouldn't call my child it. Just reminds me of the fruit.

BonsoirAnna · 22/06/2009 14:36

I love Clementine - gorgeous.

kitsmummy · 22/06/2009 14:57

It's my DD's middle name (DH wouldn't let me have it as first name) so I love it. What about Camille? that's another name i wasn't allowed!

mrsradders · 22/06/2009 16:35

love it and love clem, a friend really liked he name and never used it, but had said she wished she had!!

Astrophe · 23/06/2009 12:09

I think it's completely normal to dither over names before you have decided but then once you have gone for it you will be certain! I think Clementine is really, really lovely - go for it!

thell · 23/06/2009 13:16

I think it's great!

{Especially as I love the film Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Kate Winslet's character.}

Astrophe · 24/06/2009 12:47

thank you thank you thank you...just what a dithery 36 weeks preggers mum needs to hear!

peppapig3 · 24/06/2009 14:56

It's really lovely! I love all your names as a sibset! Go for it!

scattykatty · 25/06/2009 08:10

If DS had been a girl I wanted Clementine to which my husband and SIL proptly announced that they would be calling her 'orange' or 'juicy' for the rest of her life

sifuentes · 25/06/2009 14:41

I love all your names and want them all for myself. Clementine is adorable. Personally I don't really understand the preoccupation with siblings names that 'go' though.

Am now obsessed with clementine and lucia but think i'm having a boy - would nick elijah but doesn't go at all with my sirname. apostrophe i may have to return to you with ideas for me nearer the time

Astrophe · 25/06/2009 15:03

thank you all

Thankfully, we live abroad and clementines (oranges) are non existant here...so hopefully no assosiation with fruit

sifuentes, glad you like our names so much! Are yo going to find out the sex of bub?

Boys names we are considering (although we think ours is a girl) are Theodore/Teddy and Alfred/Alfie. I like Solomon, but DH doesn't. Other girls names considered were Ilya and Elia (but they are actually the same name meaning, as Elijah in different languages...so obviously we can't sue them this time), also Charlotte and Anna were contenders, and I like Faith but DH not so keen.

MadameCastafiore · 25/06/2009 15:05

I love it but only when it is just clem or clemmie, Clementine makes me think of small orange fruit!

sifuentes · 25/06/2009 15:15

How funny theodore.Ted, Alfred/but fred and Solomon are on our list too, though today's fave for me is Abe.

Not sure if we will find out or not. it's my first so everyone thinks I should wait. not sure i can handle the suspense though...

Faith makes me think of that 80s comedienne or shoes - that's the only one i dont like!
