Is this odd?

My dd is named after my mothers middle name (Eva).

The only boys name I like is Albert, which was my dads name.

Do you think people will think its odd if we name our children the same name as my parents? I think people will think that we cannot think of our names

cannot think of our own* names

I think it's nice. Go with the names you like. No-one else's business.

MakemineaGandT · 17/06/2009 23:10

I don't see that as being all that odd. Nice names btw.

I don't think it's at all odd, and they're lovely names.

MamaG · 17/06/2009 23:45

not odd at all

Pingpong · 17/06/2009 23:54

Most people won't know your mother's middle name though will they?
What I do think is slightly strange is that you say 'the only boy's name you like is Albert' now there are thousands of names out there. Is it really the only one you like?
Most people have a short list or at least a couple of names they really like unless of course they have used them all up with previous DC

LynetteScavo · 18/06/2009 00:02

Not odd at all, especially if your dad as passed away.... it's a lovely idea.

MonkeyMadnessssssssssss · 18/06/2009 00:31

Well its not the only one but it is the only one we could use.

I like Marcus but its my nephews name

I like Seth, Arthur and Theodore but DH says 'F' instead of 'TH' so he would say Sef etc

I like Noah and Elijah dh doesn't
he likes Jacob and Liam, I don't

We like Ned but not Edmund or Edward

Albert is the only one we can agree on, but it does bring the problem I described in the OP

Yes if it's the only one you can agree on then definitely use it. I just thought it was odd you only liked one. Thanks for clarifying!

Clary · 18/06/2009 01:02

My DS1 has my dad's name as a middle name; DD has my mum's as a middle name.

It's not a problem. And yes, if your dad's not here any more, I think it's really nice.

MaggieBee · 18/06/2009 09:48

My children's middle names are my parents names. I like that. I think people would think, it was a good idea... ? not sure though!

MaggieBee · 18/06/2009 09:50

ps, I've never regretted it. My children have their father's sur name, so it seems kind of fitting that their middle names are my mum and dad. Do it!! It feels right somehow.

5inthebed · 18/06/2009 09:55

I don't think it's odd. Me and my brother are both called after our nanna an grandad. We both have our nanna's name in our first names, and we both have our grandad's name as middle anmes, although I have the feminine version rather than the masculine (because that would be silly).

Issy123 · 18/06/2009 11:42

My brother has the same name as my dad, nobody has ever thought it odd at all.

Tortington · 18/06/2009 11:45

ds1 is names after grandfather. family tradition -i love the name - it just so happened it was a perfect fit

missmem · 18/06/2009 13:07

Naming kids after grandparents used to be the norm - nothing odd about it at all.

BlackEyedDogstar · 18/06/2009 13:11

I would nn him Albie.

I'm using parent/gparent names.

they've come back in fashion so why not

MonkeyMadnessssssssssss · 18/06/2009 14:25

I would
