You you think N'dea is meant to be like India?

These are real names by the way.

I would have said Nikita and Nadia but sadly I think you are right and it is actually India (gulp).

Metella · 05/06/2009 19:39

I suppose Nikita and India but why would anyone spell them like that?!!!

Megglevache · 05/06/2009 19:40

Oh I am a donkey of course it'ds Nikita. I was reading it like Nicorette. LoL.

I imagine Niquitta is an alternative spelling of Nikkita and I would probably pronounce it ni-QWEE-ta or ni-KEE-ta

No idea about N'Dea? EN-de-ah or nuh-DEER?

Both a bit bizarre anyway!

paisleyleaf · 05/06/2009 19:42

Nikita - like ABBA do
and no idea, probably more like 'nu dea'

Metella · 05/06/2009 19:42

Nicorette!!! Don't say that you'll give someone ideas!!

MrsKitty · 05/06/2009 19:44

Nicorette's a lovely name! or what about Nicoretta

HellHathNoFury · 06/06/2009 08:10

n'dea
noidea

MrsMattie · 06/06/2009 10:19

N'Dea Davenport is a singer. I think she says 'Neh-dee-ah'

Nikita - Elton John, Kruschev, nah.

Megglevache · 06/06/2009 10:32

LOL at N'idea.

I think I know the singer you mention- it rings a bell.

Those in the know pronounce the missing 'o' and 'i'.

hughsieoxf · 06/06/2009 16:17

N'dea I would pronounce Nadir. As in the lowest possible point. So I really wouldn't use that.

thisisyesterday · 06/06/2009 16:24

i thought India too when I read N'dea. but i don't really know

MaggieBee · 06/06/2009 16:30

. I thought n'dea was Endee. I bet it's supposed to be India though! I've seen that in USA. Puff daddy's children have loads of apostrophes in their names. It looks bananas.

princessmel · 06/06/2009 16:33

I read it as Na-dear

FenellaFudge · 06/06/2009 16:44

Ni-day-ah or eN-day-ah?

Barmy anyway, I imagine the parents are dullards.

donnie · 06/06/2009 16:48

what is the point of a name that nobody knows how to pronounce? it's a bit like Prince getting carried away with his purple ego back in the day and calling himself a weird squiggle - and then being pissed off when nobody knew what to call him. What a twat. I imagine the parents of these children are similarly mentally challenged.

MrsFlittersnoop · 06/06/2009 23:26

Don't. Ghastly. Niquitta is a nictine patch and N'Dear looks like illiterate text-speak.

There is nothing wrong (if that's your bag) in giving a child an unconventional name but PLEASE spell it in a way that can be pronounced by 99% of the population, or else everyone will assume the parents are illiterate egocentric chavs who'd be better off adopting a puppy. How on earth will the poor kid feel when they start school and no-one know how to say their name?

Trust me. My London-born son has a very common Irish name spelt in the traditional Irish Gaelic way, which wouldn't raise an eyebrow Over The Water. But he is constantly ridiculed for having a "girl's" name by his classmates, and very few of his teachers ever pronounce or spell it correctly. Even family members and old friends get it wrong . It is becoming a real ishoo for him.

He wouldn't change his name for the world - but sometimes I really wish I'd ignored his Dad and called him Tom .

Paolosgirl · 06/06/2009 23:48

Nikita and India

Does anyone else feel like slapping (theoretically, of course, I don't condone violence of any sory - usually) the people that do this to names? Grrrrrrrr...

bigted · 06/06/2009 23:51

I would def feel like slapping.
However at least it quickly identifies the parents as stupid and pretentious without having to go through the usual channels

Paolosgirl · 06/06/2009 23:57

So true, bigted.

Black shiney double cab pickup truck? Tick.
Lots of designer gear or white nylon? Tick.
Mobile phone clamped to one ear and fag in the other hand? Tick.
More gold jewellery than is necessary? Tick.
Made up spelling of common name for offspring? Tick.

bigted · 07/06/2009 00:02

Palosgirl,you made my night !

MrsFlittersnoop · 07/06/2009 00:15

Actually doonie, (apologises for thread hijack and puts on old pedant slippers) -

Prince changed his name to a squiggle back in the day because he was having on-going battles with his record label to do with copyright issues. It was actually a clever move at the time and was seen as political anti-big-business statement.

(shuffles off slippers and wanders off drooling to the library...)

MrsFlittersnoop · 07/06/2009 00:17

Sorry Donnie - must get those glasses checked!
