My friends have just named their baby this. Wonder what people think? Don't say "Gabor."

you can't say 'don't say Gabor' because that's the first thing you think of.

think it's daft

Disenchanted3 · 28/05/2009 19:28

I like it, depending on surname.

Zsa Zsa Winterbottom for example looses some of its glamour.

Tambajam · 28/05/2009 19:30

Gabor

unavoidable

strange face lifts, hitting policemen etc.

LessThenIdeal · 28/05/2009 19:55

I absolutely love it!!!

My dd's middle name is Azariah, and i quite often call her zar-zar...

womma · 28/05/2009 21:11

Oh poor little thing (not your dd lessthan!)

Ozziegirly · 29/05/2009 05:06

A friend of mine has a daughter called Zsa Zsa. Her surname is Hope and she (my friend) is stunningly beautiful so I imagine her child will be too, so it fits rather well.

nooka · 29/05/2009 06:02

I think that people should remember that like many strange names of both the literary and the media loving sort it was originally a nick name. I don't know why anyone would call their child after Zsa Zsa Gabor! Azariah is lovely though.

shootfromthehip · 29/05/2009 07:00

I want to like it, it's kind of exotic and makes me think of Cannes and Monaco and is rather glamourous. But then it is still a little bit silly too.

PatTheHammer · 29/05/2009 07:38

Sorry, reminds me of a zebra, as in 'Zsa-Zsa's baby brother' by Lucy Cousins. Love the book though!

boodleboot · 29/05/2009 10:02

this is the NN that i would use if i were brave enough to have Sheherazade as a first name....but on its own i'm not sure....

simplesusan · 29/05/2009 23:01

I wouldn't be brave enough.
Definately thinks of Gabor and a cat creature from Hector's House which was a fab tv show for kids, many, many moons ago.

MaggieBee · 30/05/2009 19:14

I like it. BUT I think I would have made it a nn for Eliza or zara.

Zsa Zsa is a bit 'oh I'm sorry could you repeat that?"

MaggieBee · 30/05/2009 19:15

It's Hungarian for Susan I think. Well, it's the pet form, so Hungarian for Susie I guess.

chandellina · 30/05/2009 20:03

I agree it is brave. It is a nickname for Elizabeth (or the Hungarian equivalent, as mentioned above) but my friends don't like the name Elizabeth and just wanted Zsa Zsa. It goes well with their surname too, which has a Z in it.

I imagine Gabor will be forgotten by the next generation ...

As a nickname it's very cute. As an actual name-to-put-on-a-cheque-book name it's dire!

MaggieBee · 30/05/2009 20:14

oh is it Elizabeth! sorry, I knew it was something really normal!
