Umm so I quite like this name, 'ah-ra-se-lee' if that makes sense. Needless to say, DP HATES it and apparently it is ridiculous and sounds like a type of pasta. I kind of figured that as I have hispanic family it would be acceptable, and I wondered if Celie or something could be a nn...

Verdict...?

Not for me I'm afraid.

Sounds like Arselee.

MaryHuff · 19/05/2009 20:28

Makes me think of vermicelli

SoupDragon · 19/05/2009 20:31

I'm with your DP, it sounds like a type of pasta.

Parmageddon · 19/05/2009 20:32

Er... no.

Hmm I still kind of like it !!

I wanted to use it as a middle name for dd but it was thoroughly vetoed, this time though I still like it. Probably only like the name in full, and possibly like it because it would be ehem, unique.. but yeah I think that in the UK it would be severely mispronounced. DP also says the end sounds like 'silly' and he thinks it's hideous..

lalala...

I mean, is it bad enough to be considered cruel to name a child it?

(ducks and covers ears/eyes)

pasta

basementbear · 20/05/2009 22:59

LOL immediately thought of pasta and it seems everyone else did too

hazeyjane · 20/05/2009 23:02

I knew a Spanish girl called Araceli, she said it, 'Ara-theli', and everybody else called her 'Ara-cheli'. I thought it was beatiful and that she was very cool!

GossipMonger · 20/05/2009 23:02

I saw it as A ra chelli.

not keen.

mollymawk · 20/05/2009 23:08

I sort-of know an Araceli. She is Mexican.

I suspect people would pronounce it wrong a LOT.

vacaloca · 20/05/2009 23:09

It's definitely a 'th' sound. Not that common in Spain and for some reason the few I knew as a child were all horrible prim girls.

Nekabu · 21/05/2009 17:26

I thought of very thin spaghetti type pasta too. Sorry ...

peachyfox · 21/05/2009 18:00

If I were remotely hispanic, which I'm not, I would want to use Sonsoles. Not what you were asking of course. Sorry about that.

MrsMattie · 21/05/2009 18:07

Bit odd.
