Samantha - reminds me of bitchy school girls
Lydia - PFB
Susannah - Nice. Lots of variations for shortning
Beatrice - I love this name
Verity - Very horsey, head girl image
Elizabeth - to many around

Dominic - Mmm don't like it. Don't know why
Nathan(iel) - my ex bf name so I love it
Jonathan - Prefer John
Edward - classsic. Can be Edward if he is a lawyer of Ed if he is a plumber
Patrick - never met an unsexy Patrick
Michael - Nah

EyeballsisonaDietAgain · 19/05/2009 15:20

Yes, I did ask for criticism and note I have asked before there are any hormones whizzing around so I won't take offence and get all flouncey so criticise away!

Hmm, ok. I only really like Susannah spelled like that, for some reason makes it a nicer name even though the sound is the same IYSWIM

Am going off Beatrice rapidly now actually.

Am Irish, well born here but family Irish so could get away with Patrick. Family name as well.

I'm a bit perturbed at the lack of support for Samantha, I'm really liking that at the moment. Oh well...

Nothing to critisise except I don't like Lydia!

Love Jonathon, Edward, Patrick and Michael. Samantha, Beatrice, Verity and Elizabeth are all lovely.

sockmonster · 19/05/2009 15:30

I actually like Susannah as long as it doesn't have a z in it. I think it is a nice classic name with great nickname potential.

Samantha isn't quite such a classic, it's also tainted badly by idiots called samantha (the twin from big brother and her sister go by 'samanda'), and other vile samanthas in the media...
However if you really like the nn sam, for a girl, use it, as that is undoubtedly what she will end up as eventually. It's unique in a way as nobody else in her class will be called it, it's not like it's a really bad name so, it's ok

sockmonster · 19/05/2009 15:32

I thought about Lydia as I thought it was quite a classic really, but dp vetoed on basis that it sounds like 'lid' and he couldn't get over that association

Nancy66 · 19/05/2009 20:25

Really like Lydia, Elizabeth and Beatrice from your girls. the other three all sound very old fashioned to me.

Not wild about any of the boys names but don't hate them either. I think Nathan is a wee bit chav.

jkklpu · 19/05/2009 20:31

Verity (and I really like Constance, too)
and
Patrick

Babbity · 19/05/2009 20:33

My favourites are Susannah and Elizabeth, and Michael and Patrick. All classic, underused, and will be uncommon. All also v unlikely to date.

dinkymum · 19/05/2009 20:41

Susannah- susie
Elizabeth- Lizzie
and
Edward

halia · 19/05/2009 20:51

Samantha OK - make sure you are ok with Sam as a 'short version'
Lydia - don't like the sound and a bit too old fashioned for me
Susannah - no unless you can guarentee you will get a sweet girly girl, Susan just makes me think of smug susan from narnia and susie is too giggly and silly
Beatrice - no, sounds pompous and naff
Verity - possibly, unusual without being to out of the ordinary
Elizabeth - OK as it has alot of possible shorts

Dominic - possibly, I like Nico as a short,
Nathan(iel) - this was one of our possible choices though i prefer Nathan (Nate as a short)
Jonathan - yes but a bit common now.
Edward - yes, lovely
Patrick - no, too irish and the only shorts are pat or paddy.
Michael (but surname begins with M) not keen, its either Mick (too irish) or Mike neither of which I like.

Girl: Elizabeth
(although its not a favourite choice of mine)
Boy: Edward - lovely name and I like the shorts (Ed, Eddie, Ted, Ned)

conniedescending · 19/05/2009 20:54

Samantha - No
Lydia - ok
Susannah - ok
Beatrice - lovely
Verity - nice but bit frilly for me
Elizabeth - lovely, an underused classic

Dominic - dull
Nathan(iel) - YUCK
Jonathan - no
Edward - not bad
Patrick - hmmm
Michael - no

Wilkiepedia · 19/05/2009 21:38

Girls: Only one I like is Beatrice if it was shortened to Bea

Boys: Dominic, Patrick nice but others a bit meh

Aurora911 · 20/05/2009 02:14

I like Lydia and Dominic.

nooka · 20/05/2009 03:15

They are all fine really. Samantha is a bit 80ish, but that probably won't matter to her! Verity seems to be having a bit of a popularity boom at the moment so I'd avoid it given a choice. Susannah would be my favourite of your girls names - lots of choice there (eg Su, Sue, Susan, Susie, Zannah). Beatrice and Elizabeth are also classics with good nick names. Lydia is slightly drippy.

Your boys names are fine, especially with the Irish connection. I prefer Nathaniel (Nate) to Nathan, partly because I like the sound better, but also because Nathan is more commonly used. It's nice to be a little out of the ordinary!

sockmonster · 20/05/2009 06:42

Nathaniel definitely nicer than Nathan

Egg · 20/05/2009 06:54

Samantha - ok bit seventies/eighties
Lydia - not keen but think it would grow on me
Susannah - ok
Beatrice - like, but prob because i know a lovely one
Verity - not keen
Elizabeth - nice

Dominic - ok
Nathan(iel) - like nathaniel
Jonathan - ok
Edward - like
Patrick - like but as others said a bit Irish (was my granddads name but his bday was 17 March)
Michael (but surname begins with M) - ok

willowstar · 20/05/2009 15:06

I don't like any of them but would choose Elizabeth if forced to for a girl, it can be shortened to Beth which is nice (or Liz or Lizzy which are not nice in my opinion!) as for the boys...Edward at a push...Eddy, Ed, Ted (?)
